Anorexia Nervosa

What is it?

Anorexia is characterized by:

  • the 15% body fat loss due to the starving on oneself
  • Distorted self-image


What causes it?

This doesn't have a cause but it has triggers. A trigger can be the reasoning behind developing anorexia but not the exact cause.

  • Enviromental
  • Genetic
  • Bullying
  • Media

Signs to look for..

Symptoms you may see in an anorexic are:


  • Weighing themselves several times a day
  • Wearing baggy clothing
  • Counting calories
  • Excessive exercising
Physical symptoms:

  • High heart rate
  • Low blood pressure
  • Organ failure
  • Skin conditions (Jaundice and Cyanosis)

How to treat it..

  • Counseling for other psychological problems that may have triggered it
  • Medication
  • In-patient or out patient help
