South Fork Elem. Parent Newsletter
May 17-21, 2021
*If your child or any member of your immediate household is tested for COVID, please keep them home until you get the test results. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Report cards will be mailed out on May 28th. Be sure to watch your mail box!
During the summer, office hours will be limited. Be sure to check out our FB page each week to see that week's office hours. It's best to email misti.thomason@lpsb.org for assistance.
If you have moved and your students will not be attending South Fork Elementary next year, please come in and do a drop slip before July 14th. This will help as we begin our new online registration forms for next year. Be sure to watch our FB page this summer for important information about next year.
What's happening this week?
*If your child or any member of your immediate household is tested for COVID, please keep them home until you get the test results. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
*Please be sure that you are sending a water bottle with your child each day. We have water for refills but can't supply multiple bottles each week to students. Thank you for your help with this. We are having many students who do not have any water each day and it's getting warm.
*We will be making calls this week about students who have qualified for summer school for 4th grade. 4th graders who qualify for summer school MUST attend to be considered for promotion to 5th grade.
*We will contact parents by the end of this week to let you know about promotion or retentions.
*2nd and 3rd grade summer school is by invitation only and is targeting students who need a little extra help to be ready for the next grade. Spots are very limited and we are so excited about this great opportunity!
*Beginning next year, we will be using the PowerSchool Parent Portal for all school forms. No more filling out papers and returning them at the beginning of the year. Yippee! If you have not created an account, we ask that you set up your account asap. You can do it on your phone or computer.
*With warmer weather coming, please remember that skirts and shorts need to be no more than 4 inches above the knee. Many students have grown taller since the beginning of school so please be sure to check those skirts and shorts to be sure they're not too short.
*Dress code reminders: Jackets must fully zip from top to bottom (no hoodies that don't fully zip) and leggings must be navy, white, or gray. No patterns allowed. Shirts worn under uniform shirts must be white or navy.
*Be sure to write your child's name inside of their jackets. This helps if they misplace their jacket.
*Please check to be sure that your 3rd-5th grader has their mask each day. If they forget it and they ride on the bus, they don't get one until they get to school. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe.
*Please remember to check PowerSchool often as that is the best way to see current grades. Be sure that you are encouraging your student to do their best everyday. It is much easier to begin with good grades than it is to pull low grades up from incomplete or missing assignments.
*If you have not paid your student's supply fee, please pay it as soon as possible.
*If you have a new address and/or contact numbers, please call the office so we can be sure to get those updated.
*Be sure that you join the teacher and bus driver REMIND groups and follow our FB page and our school website.
*We are doing our part to get info out to you so please help us by sharing information and helping us reach all parents.

Thank you for sending these notes for our great staff!
Thank you Mrs. Tricia!
One of Mrs. Tricia's parents sent this note of thanks.
Mrs. Tricia is a great listener and communicator. She is really dedicated to her students. She has built up my daughter Mariah's confidence in learning and has consistently challenged her to do her best. She is always patient and kind, exemplary of what a Pre - K teacher should be! We will certainly miss her when Mariah goes to kindergarten.
Thank you,
Melissa Boivin
Great job Ms. Brittney!
Brittani Pourciau sent this about Ms. Albin.
Parents, thank you for your help to highlight our hard working staff members!
ROUND 2 IS NOW CLOSED.
Round 3 applications will be accepted from May 17th.
We will not have an in-person application day. This lets everyone have the same opportunity to get their applications in on the first round of applications. HAVE your documents ready now (Birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, 4 proofs of residency, proof of income) so that you are ready to get your application in as soon as the first round opens!
If you missed early Kindergarten registration, you can come in the summer to register. Watch our FB page to see the dates in July we will begin registering.
Bus Driver Remind Codes
Please join the REMIND group for your child's bus driver. This is a great way to communicate with your driver. Please remember that they are not allowed to reply during routes and will reply before or after their routes. Text the code for your child's bus to 81010 to join their REMIND group.
