Monday Memo
10-15-18
Great things!
So many exciting things happening in classes this last week: new I love you rituals, songs, fire safety discussions, bug-making, self portraits being made, dancing, and climbing in and out of boxes! Our students were so busy this past week developing all kinds of skills!
PLC/PD brought some friendly competition, good conversations, creativity, and collaborative teamwork! And the best part was the smiles and laughter I saw and heard. Great things happen when we cooperate and work together!
I noticed several classes painting their stones, and wow! These are going to look amazing out in our play space!
The Kindness Tree is so pretty! I enjoyed reading all of the kind acts happening around HGECC! Don't forget to really notice those kind and helpful acts and take a moment to write it on a heart! What a neat thing for kids to show their parents on P/T conference days!
Challenge: This week as we head into P/T conferences-think of one CD strategy, I love you ritual, or piece of information you could share with parents. This is a great one-on-one opportunity to share some of the fabulous things you are doing in your classroom! Think about sending home a breathing icon card and teaching those, or an I love you ritual on a laminated card!

Nuts-n-Bolts:
*There will be a soup supper for staff working late conferences Tuesday night. Our Caring for Kids partners will be providing several kinds of soup that evening! Then, on Thursday, the Social Committee will be providing dinner for staff working late.
*For our whole staff photo-please wear your HG black polos from this year. You may wear blue jeans with your polo if you wish. We will meet immediately following dismissal on Thursday the 18th in the cafe-gym-a-torium.
*We will be having a work day this coming Saturday the 20th from 8-12 to get going on setting up our new play space by the stage. We will be sending out a phone blast to parents as well to invite them if they would like to help. If you can or want to help, please bring your shovels on Saturday morning! I can't wait to see the all come together for our students! There will also be some members from our Caring for Kids partners helping out and some GHS baseball players too!
*NEHS from CW will be in our building on October 25th from 9:45-10:45 a.m. They are bringing about 6 students over. If you have an activity going on in your classroom that you would like them assist will, please let me know, and we will try to divvy them up.
*Lead teachers-as we head into flu season/take a mental health day season, I am asking you each to create a list of your students divided up between the other classrooms. This will be a guide for me in the event you are out and we are unable to secure subs; we will be placing kids in the other classrooms on those days. Take some time to think about which kids can be grouped together and which cannot when you create your list. If you have a particular child or two that need extra assistance, please note that on your list-including that the TA in your room may go with that child/those children to their new location. Hopefully we do not have to do this very often-but want to be proactive. Please place a copy of this list on my door and one in your sub folder by the end of the day next Thursday, Oct 18th.
* Next 2 week announcement helpers will be Natasha's class
*If you have not done your MLP evaluation-please do so by the end of the day Tuesday the 16th. Per email from Sue Kester-you will now only have 7 days to complete these.
* We are still collecting items for our HGECC gift basket to be raffled off at the GEF Trivia Night again this year. This year's basket theme is: "Winter comfort items". We are looking for anything that you might find comforting on a chilly day: hot chocolate mix, mugs, a warm throw blanket, soup mixes, hot tea, etc. If you would like to donate-please drop your items off in my office. Anyone wishing to donate will receive a jeans coupon in return for you to use any day you wish before Christmas break.
