Kindergarten Newsletter ACES
Week Of April 10th
Highlights from last week....
In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books. The children worked on making text to text and text to self connections while they read. They practiced using the words "this book reminds me of....."
In Math, we worked on number bonds and number sentences up to 10. We focused on subtracting or "breaking numbers apart" this week. We focused on number stories and worked on writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence. We also focused on reading number sentences to determine if we should add or subtract the numbers in the sentence.
A peek at our learning this week....
In Reader's Workshop, we will be working on how readers think while they read. We will be using our schema as we read our books. The children are working on making text to text while they read. They will compare and contrast characters in different stories.

PTO MEMBERS NEEDED
Change of Clothes
Notes from Mrs. Chadwick
Thank you to so many who came to or supported the book fair. It was great to see so many of you there. My daughter loved seeing all the kids! We got some great new books for our classroom.
The PTO is looking for new members it would be great if we could have at least one person be a representative from our classroom. If you are interested please let me know I can get your more information.
Can you believe there is one week until Vacation? We have been working so hard. I will be trying to send home an updated reading level and sight word list with all kids before vacation. I am very happy with the growth they are making. I will also send home some books. Please practice at home!
Also, as of tomorrow, our class will have snack in the afternoon rather than the morning. The rationale is that we are eating breakfast in our classroom at 8:15 AM, having snack at 9:15-10:15 (depending on their math rotation because it is a working snack) and we have lunch at 11:25AM, then we do not eat anything after that. The kids are famished by the end of the day. I figured that I would have them eat snack at 1:00. We can try it and see how it goes. We talked about it last week so the kids know about this change.

Notes from Mrs. Potter
I am very excited that our class is carrying over some of the skills that they have been learning in Fundations into both Reader's and Writer's Workshop! Our friends are starting to recognize digraphs in their reading and some are able to recall the special sounds of the digraphs and use them to tap out words!
Thank you for all that you!
Notes from Mrs. Melanson
We have been working hard at our reading and writing. Keep reading at home! The children are making such amazing progress. Continue to practice sight words and number writing as well. If you need a new reading log, please let me know.
Monday we will be having our snack in the afternoon instead of the morning. It's a long time from lunch until the end of the day, and we have some hungry friends in the afternoon. I'm hoping this will help. Please remember to put cold packs in with food that needs to be kept cold.
Please keep toys at home unless your child has the mystery can. We don't want toys getting lost or stolen at school. You may also want to send in a new change of clothes for the warmer weather. I will make sure all winter gear is sent home this week!
As always, thanks for all you do! If you need anything, please let me know.
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
We are working very hard at practicing writing our numbers correctly. It would be helpful if you have your child practice writing numbers each night along with those sight words. The students are rocking out those sight words!
This week we will be looking at making some new classroom rules. They will all be signing their names to it and I will be holding them accountable. Spring fever has hit our room and seems to have hit hard. I want to enjoy our last 46 school days. Yes only 46 days left of school.
Thank you for the klorox wipes and the tissues. We still could use expo dry erase markers. We do a lot with our white boards.
Thank you for all your support. Mrs. G
