Battle of the Books
Congratulations to our 4th grade class on completing Battle of the Books. Our class read a total of 101 books over the last 8 weeks!! We had five students read all 8 books, Wyatt, Shirley Ann, Joe, Megan, Lily and Sierra. There were several students read six or seven books , Brady, Katie and Taylore!! The "Reading Warriors," Hailey, Brohnson, Shirley Ann, and Aiden (alternates Joe and Sierra) were the winners of the classroom book battle.
I'm so proud of all the students! They did a great job!
Please have your child check at home for any battle of the books and return them to school.
Language Arts
Students are working in small groups to create a lesson on a part of speech for the class. They need to create an entry for our interactive language arts notebook. They also need to create a video to teach the class about their part of speech.
Reading
This week for reading students had their classroom book battle on Monday and the 4th grade book battle on Wednesday. We wrapped up our Battle of the Books with a celebration. We had ice cream and watch "Sarah, Plain and Tall."
Math
This week students continued learning about factor pairs, common factors, and multiples. They discovered the relationship between factors and multiples, and they learned how to determine whether a number is prime or composite. We ended the week making and describing number patterns.
Homework: Lessons 5.4 & 5.5
Science
This week in science we read an article about how electric current is generated and what happens during a "Blackout". We also talked about some electrical safety tips. We reviewed energy concepts with a short video, and had fun doing an energy readers theater. On Thursday, we had a presentation by McLaren Northern Michigan, called "Tar Wars", which focused on the negative impact of tobacco use.

This week in social studies students started a new unit about the Midwest. They worked on their map skills and located the states and major cities in this region. We also learned about the prairie states.
