Message from the Principal
School Board and Community Meet & Greet Sundowner
Due to the mix up of dates in our calendar, we are aware that the school Sundowner next week clashes with the evening Ash Wednesday Mass in the Parish. We apologise for this inconvenience, however if you are planning to attend mass on
Ash Wednesday, you are welcome to attend the 9.00am Mass with students, or alternatively, you are welcome to pop into the Sundowner prior to attending mass in the evening.
Rottnest Swim
We can only imagine that conquering the Rottnest Channel Swim is no easy feat. Best wishes to our Year Six teacher, Mr Mike Barnes and any of our parents and friends who are preparing to swim the 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island this coming Saturday morning. We wish you well and trust there will be enough energy at the end to celebrate your achievement!
Dads & Kids Campout
It was great to hear so many excited children sharing stories of their adventures of the campout over the weekend. A huge thank you to our organisers Joel, Barry and Andrew. No doubt a big job, but loads of fun for sure!
Waste Wise Accreditation
Congratulations to the Environmental & Sustainability Committee on achieving Accreditation for us to become a Waste Wise School. A fabulous effort. Our plaque will be unveiled by the Environmental Ministry at the upcoming senior assembly on Friday.
As of next week, school bins will be in the courtyard on canteen days, Monday and Thursdays only. On the remaining days, students will be taking all scraps home in their lunchboxes. This is a good opportunity for parents to see what is being eaten and to reinforce those reduce, reuse and recycle strategies.
Federal Member for Moore: Ian Goodenough
Mr Ian Goodenough is attending our senior assembly this Friday afternoon to present the school with a certificate. If you would like to meet the Minister, please feel free to attend and introduce yourself. It is also the Year 5 Gold Assembly, so there should be a good show on as well!
I thought this was a great quote I came across in an article that I was reading last night, and something to think about reminding our children…………who are ALL very different.
Kindest regards
Tamara McGougan

Pre-Kindy 2020 Term 2 Applications Now Open
Pre-Kindergarten is a PLAY-BASED educational program for children who have turned three-years-old. This is a separate program from the Kindy – Year 6 program.
Pre-Kindy sets the foundation for future school learning through a fun and educational program that develops a lifelong love of learning. It also encourages self-help and independence in young children and enhances the development of the whole child across the physical, social and emotional, language, cognitive and spiritual domains.
The Pre-Kindergarten Program is run by a qualified Primary School Teacher with a qualified Teaching Assistant.
If you would like your child to attend our Pre-Kindy program, please contact the office ASAP.

Seasons for Growth
Here at Whitford Catholic Primary School we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or significant change or loss, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. Therefore, we offer a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth to students in Years 1-6.
If you think this is something that might be helpful for your family, please click on the following link.

Boys Dance (Year 4, 5, 6) and Specialist Dance (Year 5, 6)
If your child has signed up for either group, make sure you are following the groups on School Stream as that is our main form of communication. It is important that both the parent and student understand the commitment involved for the year. A parent information night will be held Tuesday 3 March at 5:30pm in the Library. We are all looking forward to another successful year!!
Christian Dance Auditions (Year 4, 5, 6)
An email was sent home yesterday to the parents of students who are interested in auditioning for the Christian Dance Group 2020. Dance experience is required. Auditions will be held at 8:00am in the Music Room Thursday 20th. The Year 6's at SLS will audition at lunch.

Music News
Music Class Equipment, Year 4-6
Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 are required to have either a scrapbook or plastic sleeve folder for their Music work. Students are also required to have a Recorder for their lessons. We have a number of Recorders remaining in the Front Office for those families who wish to purchase an instrument from the school ($15). Once this stock runs out, we will no longer be providing these for purchase. Alternatively, Recorders can be purchased from a Music store or perhaps parents can possibly source an instrument from Officeworks, Big W, K Mart, Target, etc., however, we can not guarantee that Recorders will be available for purchase at those stores.

Waste Free Lunches
Messy foods...how to pack them successfully!
My son loves to take yogurt for morning tea everyday. To save money and pack a waste free yogurt we buy a large tub of yogurt and spoon the desired amount into a double wall stainless steel container. We picked this one up at our local supermarket. You could also pack other messy foods like fruit salads, noodles, rice...give it a go!

OLM Parish News
We are after volunteers for our Children’s liturgy which runs during term time, Sundays, at the 9.30am masses. It is an opportunity for children to experience the gospel in a child friendly way. The children are engaged in singing, prayer, craft and other fun activities. The sessions usually go for approximately 20 minutes. We are looking for both teachers and general helpers. Training is offered for all parents/guardians wishing to get involved and the parish will help adults obtain a working with children check.
Please consider getting involved with the parish in this way, we have a lovely team and the children are great fun to work with.
