VTSD Reconfiguration FAQ's
answering your questions for the 2017-2018 school year
Which grades will each building serve?
Glen Meadow Middle School: 6-8
Lounsberry Hollow School: 4-5
Rolling Hills School: 2-3
Cedar Mountain School: K-1
Walnut Ridge School: Pre-School
Which grades will the buses serve?
Tier 1: High School
Tier 2: Lounsberry Hollow & Glen Meadow
Tier 3: Rolling Hills & Cedar Mountain
Lounsberry Hollow students will be dropped off before Glen Meadow students; and Rolling Hills students will be dropped off before Cedar Mountain students. Pick-up and drop-off bus times will be adjusted, accordingly.
Will bus pick-up and drop-off times change?
The drop-off time for high school students (Bus Tier 1) will also be 5 minutes later; however, their pick-up time will remain the same. It is important to note that, each year, bus pick-up and drop-off times shift slightly. This is not a result of the reconfiguration.
Will bus routes be longer as a result of the reconfiguration?
What Specials will be available to my child, next year?
- Pre-K: Pre-schoolers will be given instruction in Specials, including Music and Library
- Elementary: Students will continue to rotate through a cycle of Specials, including Library and Robotics
Middle School:
6th Grade
All students will continue to take a Specials rotation of Music, Art, Coding, & Spanish. In addition, students will have their choice of a Career-Ready Practices quarterly rotation that focuses on High School readiness, OR their choice of Music Ensemble (Band, Orchestra, Chorus).
7th Grade
Students will be able to choose TWO of the following THREE elective offerings:
- Genius Hour
- Quarterly rotation of Specials (Music Art, Engineering, & Spanish)
- Music Ensemble (Band, Orchestra, Chorus)
---With teacher recommendation, students may participate in more than one music ensemble
8th Grade
Students will be able to select ONE elective from each of the following columns:
Column 1:
- Genius Hour
- Guitar--Year-long Music Elective
- Illustration--Year-long Art Elective
- Music Ensemble (Band, Orchestra, Chorus)
---With teacher recommendation, students may participate in more than one music ensemble
Column 2:
- Genius Hour
- French I CP, High School credit
- Spanish I CP, High School credit
What is the 6th Grade's "Career Ready Practices" elective?
Will there be after-school clubs at Lounsberry Hollow?
Will band, orchestra, and choir be offered during the day at Lounsberry Hollow?
Students will continue to receive lesson/section instruction, as in previous years.
What has changed regarding 8th grade Specials?
What is Genius Hour?
Which grade levels will have 1:1 chromebooks next year?
Will second grade follow the house model?
Will 4th grade students have the opportunity to participate in after-school club/teams?
Will 6th grade students have access to clubs and activities at Glen Meadow?
Will all music ensemble students receive sectional lessons?
Have all teachers been given their assignment for next year?
What are the administrative assignments for next year?

Are we moving furniture from Lounsberry Hollow to Glen Meadow so that all 6th Grade classrooms look similar to this year?
Will there be a playground at Lounsberry Hollow?
Will construction be needed at Walnut Ridge?
Are all of the changes in VTSD the result of the reconfiguration?
Additional Questions
Will fourth grade students have desks and classroom tables at Lounsberry Hollow?
Will fourth grade students need to use lockers?
For the wintertime, locks will be removed from the lockers to allow students to place their coats and winter wear into the lockers, if their parents so decide.
