A Bit About Ms. Hairyes

So happy to welcome all parents and students to the final year of middle school! This will be my fourth year at Centennial. I previously taught 6th grade language arts and social studies before moving up to 8th grade! This is my second year teaching 8th grade social studies and I am so excited :)

Educational Background:

  • BA in Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies (6-9)
  • NC State University

Information Going Home with Students

Parent Contact Form:

Parent and teacher communication are essential for a student's success in the classroom. I would love to keep parents up to date on happenings in the classroom and awesome student behavior! If you were not able to fill out the Parent Contact form at Open House, please take a moment to fill out the form below! A paper copy will also be sent home with students.

8th Grade Social Studies Syllabus:

Please read through the social studies syllabus (parents and students). Parents and students will need to sign and return.

The Flipped Classroom:

This year our classroom will be flipped in order to create more time in class for our blended learning model. Students will be asked to view online flipped video lectures on YouTube for homework each week. Typically, students will only have to view one video per week. There may be some instances where students will be asked to view two videos per week but these instances will be rare :) IF your student does not have access to technology to view videos please let me know ASAP! We will make the necessary arrangements!

Alternative/Flexible Seating:

This year our classroom will be experimenting with what's called alternative or flexible seating. This means the classroom will be set up in sections with different areas that will serve as work stations for students. In these areas, students will have different seating options. For example, a workstation could have core exercise balls as seats, stools with a raised desk, and traditional classroom seating. This type of seating encourages students to be proactive in their workstation choice and choose a space that will enhance their focus and improve their work.
