Celebrating National Hispanic Month Using Biteable
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Using MackinVia, 8th grade students researched Hispanics that are making an impact in our daily lives. Included in this project were: Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, theater actor, songwriter and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, and professional baseball player Sammy Sosa. Also included on this list were the Castro twins from San Antonio, Texas. Julian Castro, mayor of San Antonio and Joaquin Castro secretary of the US. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Students used Biteable to Hi-lite their Hispanic icons. Biteable is a video maker with a variety of templates that allows students to be creative using different animation styles, colors, texts, fonts, and uploading pictures.
The twins, Ludwika and Sheccid Slough created their Biteables on Julian and Joaquin, the Castro twins from San Antonio. The Slough twins enjoyed researching the Castro twins and recommend Biteable because its user friendly.
Students from Mr. Rios class were engaged when using Biteable and were anxious to present their video to the class.
