Crazy About Similes
This week we are focusing on figurative language. We have learned that similes compare things by using the words 'like' and 'as.' We discussed similes that we hear often and came up with some of our own. To reinforce this skill, we read through a favorite Christmas book, The Polar Express and found many different similes. We also made our own elves and wrote about them using similes.
In Reading
- This week we are learning that an author can leave us clues without actually telling us what is happening and then we need to use what we already know to make an inference. We read through The Polar Express to find different clues to make an inference about what was happening.
- We are learning about how to read a play.
In Math
- We are learning how to tell time to the exact minute. We are also learning quarter to and quarter past, and half past.
- Practice at home! Ask your child to tell you what time it is. You can also give them a time and activity and ask them if it is A.M. or P.M.
Our favorite elf is back for a visit!
