Diet consists mainly of fish, fly early in the morning in search of food- sometimes flying as far as 100 kilometers.


Found throughout Eurasia, from the eastern Mediterranean to Vietnam.

Conservation Status

The Great White Pelican is classified as LC or Least Concern on the IUCN Red List- meaning there is not any great threat about the endangerment of the species.

Interesting Facts & Special Characteristics

  • GWP stand on sandbars with their wings spread out and their bills open to cool down.
  • GWP plunge their bills into the water to get fish, and when they get a fish, they tilt their heads backwards and swallow it whole.
