National Day of Mourning - Monday. September 19th
I know we all share deep sorrow in the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her longstanding commitment to public service and dignified leadership in uncertain times was an example to us all. Albertans join fellow members of the Commonwealth in mourning her death and extend heartfelt condolences to all members of the Royal Family.
In solemn recognition of Her late Majesty, the Government of Alberta has announced that September 19, 2022 will be a provincial day of mourning.
Schools are encouraged to offer opportunities for students to take part in the day of mourning. Students and their families may wish to participate in an outdoor ceremony at the Alberta legislature at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, the day of her funeral in London. The ceremony will be live-streamed for students who are not able to attend in-person. Additional details on the ceremony are available https://www.alberta.ca/queen-elizabeth-memorial-services.aspx.
Principal's Advisory Committee - Students and Parents
Thank you to our parents who attended our "School Council Introduction & Establishment" meeting with Alberta School Councils' Association on Thursday night! Unfortunately, we were unable to establish a Parent School Council again this year; however, the parents in attendance brought forth some excellent ideas! Their voice and representation were so appreciated. A gigantic applause for Vicki, Laura, and Jessica who are now a part of the "Principal's Advisory Committee" YAY!! Their advice and opinions will be sought regarding all things St. Isidore! If you'd like to be a part of sharing your ideas with St. Isidore, please email me at tracym@eics.ab.ca and I will put you on my list! I will look to the Committee for advice on all things school related! Topics could include: Faith, achievement, attendance, budget, calendar, school education plans, retreats, grad and much more!!
Students - this is for you too! If you'd like to share your thoughts with Mrs. Melnyk, let me know. I'd love to build a committee with our students too. This is your school and your VOICE matters to me!! All grades, 1-12, are encouraged to let Mrs. Melnyk know if you'd like to be a part of our committee! It won't interfere with your school work, I promise :) Email me: tracym@eics.ab.ca for more information!

Accessing the Canvas Classroom
It is VERY Important... On the first day, log In to ensure all of your courses are there. Chesterton Students will only see their first semester course, that is ok! All other SILC students will see the courses they are currently taking.
Each class requires you to complete the first "quiz" or "questionnaire" THIS MUST BE COMPLETED FOR EVERY CLASS ON THE FIRST DAY. Yes, most of your answers will be the same, but it is important to complete this for every class so every teacher has the most accurate information for your education plan. St Isidore is a very unique and flexible environment and we do this so you have all of the flexibility and personalization you need. So, my friends, that is your very first job... Go in to every course and fill out the "Questionnaire" on Day 1!
What do you need before you begin?
Good Internet
Laptop or Computer or Chromebook - no iPhones, iPads, or tablets, Canvas is hard for student work on these.
Logging in every day and keeping up with your work!!!!! EVERY DAY!!!
Having troubles? ASK your teacher for help - do not be shy!
Still having troubles? Come in to the Centre or a virtual meeting with your teacher. Please don’t wait too long. We are here to help :)
Get in the habit of logging into your Powerschool Account regularly to check your marks. If deadlines pass, a mark of “zero” will be put in as a placeholder "MISSING" until you hand in your work. I cannot stress enough the importance of being diligent with your work! You must login using the same username and password that you use for your EICS gmail and your Canvas classroom: PowerSchool Login
If you were with EICS (even if you came from: ABJ, SAB, OLMP, or St. Mary) last year, your password is still the same. If you are new, you will be given a generic password that you must change immediately!
Are You New to SILC and EICS?
When you registered with SILC (EICS) you were assigned a six digit user number. Your parents set up their own account when they registered you and can find your number easily for you. If you are struggling, please email us or call 780-449-6463 and say, “Hello! I am a new student and need my 6 digit User Number to login please :)”
This is your student number that was assigned to you, and will stay with you as long as you are a student of EICS. PLEASE, do NOT share your 6 digit username or password with anybody as this is your security login in for your email and your course work in your Canvas Classroom. Allowing others into your account is a violation of the EICS Tech User Agreement
Students will work on web-based courses using our Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
How to log on to your Canvas Classroom:
**CLOSE & logout of all other Google/email/browser applications and start with a fresh Google Internet Browser. This means personal gmail accounts. Log out of EVERYTHING!
In Google Chrome, open your EICS school email by heading to: mail.eics.ab.ca
Log in using your 6*****@eics.ab.ca & password. Your username is your 6 digit EICS Student ID. If you are a returning student, your passwords will be the same as last year. If you are new ...The default password for your first login will be sent privately - YOU MUST CREATE A NEW PASSWORD and don’t forget it! If you ever need a password change, go to: Change Password
Then, in a new Chrome tab, go to: eics.instructure.com
You should see your SILC Canvas Dashboard with your classes there.
Please head to our website for up-to-date info: https://silc.eics.ab.ca/

Sacramental Preparation:
Alll parents the deadline to join Fall preparation classes here at the church is September 7. This is for all grades: First Reconciliation/First Communion AND Confirmation.
OLPH parish has a Family Faith Formation approach to sacramental preparation, so we offer several dates and options throughout the school year to help busy parents choose a time that will work best for them to participate fully and actively with their child.
Specific Reminders for Classroom Teachers:
Grade 2-5: Students can register for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, which can be taken one right after the other. Three different sessions will be offered again this schools year, Fall, Winter or Spring. If a child has not been baptized yet, we will also work with that family on additional age appropriate preparation!
Grade 6-8: Students can register for Confirmation. The program at OLPH runs over 5 months and will be offered twice this year, in the first and second semester of the school year. If a student has not yet celebrated first communion or reconciliation, their preparation for those sacraments will be incorporated into their preparation for Confirmation so the child can be fully initiated.
Interest in volunteering at the church…can contact Natalie Lavigne at 780-467-5470 (ext 225) or email sacraments@olph.ca.
