From Mrs. Barry
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, "Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country." A national holiday since 1894, the purpose is to pay tribute to the American worker.
I don't know about you, but I'd say our first three weeks of school seriously constitutes as LABOR! Teachers, parents, and students alike have been working incredibly hard. From building relationships to academics, from learning new technology to developing protocols and procedures, there's been no shortage of work happening at Meadow Wood!
The first Labor Days celebrated the positivity that laborers had on the community. Again, these first three weeks have also demonstrated this. Things have gone incredibly well, and we've banded together to provide the best education for our children.
Meadow Wood may not be a trade or industrial industry, but Labor Day is certainly an appropriate day to celebrate all of the hard work and dedication that is going into the 2022-2023 school year! I hope you enjoyed your holiday, and I encourage you to discuss the contributions your children are making to a great school year!
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Meadow Wood - GREAT happens here!
Counselor's Connection
Spring Branch ISD is fortunate to have a Developmental Guidance Program where all children have the opportunity to enhance the skills necessary to help them become responsible, successful learners. Our counseling program is based on the Texas Guidance Curriculum. The Texas Guidance Curriculum is designed to help students acquire age-appropriate knowledge and skills within the following areas:
¡ Intrapersonal Effectiveness
¡ Interpersonal Effectiveness
¡ Personal Health and Safety
¡ Post-Secondary Education and Career Readiness
The focus of the counseling program is to help build a supportive and caring environment so that students will achieve academic and personal success. We are available to help parents and teachers understand the normal developmental growth stages of children, as well as to work with students in classroom guidance lessons, in small groups, and individually. Students may self-refer or be referred by teachers, parents, or other school personnel.
Professional School Counselors are professional educators with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by todayâs diverse student populations. We do not work in isolation but serve as one component in a team of many. Full implementation of the guidance curriculum is achieved through a partnership between the counselor, staff members, and parents.
The school years are full of growth, promise, excitement, frustration, disappointment, and hope. It is a time when students begin to discover what the future holds for them. School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set appropriate career goals, and realize the full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the community.
Please note that as Professional School Counselors it is not appropriate for us to provide ongoing therapy or long-term counseling. However, we are equipped with a variety of resources to help families make decisions pertaining to their children.
By addressing the intellectual and emotional needs of students, it is our hope that each child will have a rewarding school experience.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child.

- Food treats will be given only to students in your childâs class. Food treats may NOT be given to all students in the entire grade level.
- Treats must be in individual servings - cupcakes, cookies, popsicles, etc. NO CAKES! (Note: many MWE students have nut allergies. We ask that you take this into consideration when providing treats.)
- Treats will be given during recess on the playground or at the very end of the day in the classroom. NO FOOD TREATS MAY BE GIVEN IN THE CAFETERIA.

Volunteer Registration Info & Links
We hope that every one of you will volunteer this year. To do so, even if it is simply to chaperone a field trip, you MUST complete the volunteer registration process.
¡ If you are a new volunteer, please complete the application using the link below before beginning your service.
¡ If you are a returning volunteer, you must re-register every year. Please use the link below to do so.
https://www.springbranchisd.com/engage/partnerships-volunteers
Please note that this does not work using your cellular phone! A laptop or desktop is needed!
SBISD requires all persons interested in being a volunteer to agree to a Name Based Criminal History Background Check (NBCHBC) each school year. This is in addition to the Raptor System (V-soft) which compares all visitor names against sexual offender databases and is currently implemented at all SBISD campuses.
By completing and submitting the SBISD Volunteer Registration form, you agree to a criminal history background check. Please use your legal name, and complete all required fields in the correct format. The entire application takes just a few minutes and may take 5-10 business days to be processed. As with any district data, multiple security measures are in place to protect all information. Donât forget to click submit!
All approved volunteers will be entered into the district's Raptor system. To complete the process, you must bring your photo id to be verified and scanned into Raptor the first time you visit your campus this year. By US mail, SBISD will notify any volunteer applicant who does not pass the NBCHC.
