Oak Ridge Elementary

Weekly Update December 7-11

Giving to Others

At this time of year we are all very busy and at times it might feel that we are asked to give and give - more and more. Recently, I came across an article that a former parent from my days at Peeler Open School for the Performing Arts wrote for the Greensboro News and Record and it has really impacted my thoughts for this busy time of year. I hope you will be able to take a few minutes to read this insightful piece of writing by Mrs. Melanie Rodenbough.

Toy Drive

The ORE Student Council is sponsoring a toy drive and all toys will be donated to the FOX8 Gifts for Kids campaign. New, unwrapped toys for all ages are appreciated and can be placed in the large decorated boxes in the front hallways. Collection starts Monday, November 23 and runs through Wednesday, December 9th.

Staffing Update

When we leave for Winter Break we will be sending off to a happy retirement Mrs. Morton, 3-5th Grade Academically Gifted Teacher. We also will be wishing Mrs. Kubic, K-5 Exceptional Children's Teacher, all the best as she resigns her teaching position. We will miss both of these amazing educators and wish them all the best in their new adventures! Both Mrs. Morton and Mrs. Kubic will be with us through Friday, December 18th so please drop by to say good-bye and wish them both well. We are currently accepting resumes and interviewing for both of these positions and hope to have both positions filled with highly qualified teachers very soon. If a highly qualified, certified teacher is not in place when we return from Winter Break we will have a qualified substitute in both roles so that both classrooms remain active and services are not disrupted.

We look forward to seeing everyone for the 2nd and 3rd Grade Student Performance Night this Thursday, December 10th!

Way to go Ms. Gsell's Class!

Ms. Gsell's students were the top class again for the GCS Reads 20 Initiative! Way to go to Ms. Gsell and all her students for participating in the Nightly Home Reading and turning in your reading logs for the month of November! The December Reading Logs and Holiday Reading Challenge will be a fun way to keep reading even when we are out for Winter Break! Click on the link below to access the Holiday Reading Challenge form:
