From the Director
Dear CDS Community,
Last week our Head of School announced that CDS will continue with e-learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
While we are saddened by the reality that we cannot safely meet again on campus this year, we are also deeply grateful that our entire community has managed to stay healthy during this unprecedented crisis. We are also grateful to have adapted so quickly to the new practice of teaching and learning online.
Students----I trust that many of you have established new and effective routines and habits out of necessity since our campus closed. I encourage you to stay the course for the next 3-4 weeks as the school year comes to an end. These are unique times that you will remember throughout your lives. I commend each of you for rising to the challenge and making the most of your learning despite our physical distance.
Now that we are certain our campus will remain closed through the end of the school year, we can move forward with planning for the MS Athletic Award Ceremony, Arch Day, and the Grade 8 Graduation. We will keep you informed as details become available.
**Note that we will be sharing a schedule next week for students to safely visit the school to pick up personal belongings, return textbooks, and clean out their lockers.
Stay safe and healthy in the week ahead!
Mr. Scoville

High School Orientation for 8th Graders
We know that transitioning from middle school to high school can be an exciting and sometimes frightening period for our students. To support them with this transition, the high school hosted an orientation for CDS 8th graders and their parents to help them learn what they need to know to feel comfortable and prepared on their first day of high school.
Assistant Director of High School, Mr. Musselman, and a panel of students and teachers discussed the high school’s educational philosophy, curricular offerings, extracurricular options, and provided helpful insights and tips about life in high school.
If you missed this event, don't worry! Mr. Musselman will host a second high school orientation in August! If you our your 8th grader have additional questions, please contact the CDS High School office.

Their final product was a digital book that they then read to 3rd grade students in the First Program.

Cooking Co-Curricular Club (CCs)
The first two weeks have been a lot of fun and the students have been able to make some delicious foods suitable to their own preference. This Monday, we are making stir fried Pork and Sesame Udon Noodles! Any student is welcome to join, they just need to notify Ms. Van Liew in advance and make sure they have the ingredients and supplies (listed on the Cooking CC Classroom).

MS Athletic Banquet
Hello Phoenix Fans!!!
It's that time a year again for us to celebrate our CDS athletes on their amazing seasons at the 5th Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we won't be having this event in person, but instead we will be showing a pre-recorded video of the festivities for you all to watch with your family and friends.
The link to this video will be shared in the weekly newsletter the week before the event, and all students will also receive a link to the video through email. When will this be happening you ask?
The video will be posted on Thursday, May 28th at 5pm. We hope that you all take the time to watch it at that time with us. Fantastic job in all of your seasons everyone!
Gooooo Phoenix!
Sincerely,
Mr. Monette

At Dalton we want to focus on actively helping to maintain our students' well-being, both during times of crisis and normal daily life. This is where the SWIP page comes in! So, take a look around and you will see some information from the student council, SHINE, and various teachers. If you have resources that should be added to this page, or any questions please feel free to contact us!
