Mann Behavior Expectations
CLICK ON THE IMAGE (to the left) TO ACCESS OUR BEHAVIOR MATRIX. This document outlines our behavior expectations for every area of the building. Teachers will continue to reteach and practice these expectations throughout the school year with their students. Feel free to review these expectations with your child at home to help reinforce positive choices while at school.
A Note from Principal Payne . . .
Hello everyone! It is so good to be back at Mann Elementary with our students and teachers. Thank you all so much for the warm welcome back. It was so great to jump back into the world of Horace Mann Elementary. It is difficult to believe that we have only four weeks left to finish strong.
Just a reminder that the last day of school is scheduled for Thursday, May 27th. This day will be a two-hour early release, so we will be dismissing at 1:45PM that day. Until then, our students are geared up to continue their learning each day, show what they know and have learned on their iReady and other end of year assessments, and continuing to follow all building wide behavior expectations in all settings - classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground and bathroom.
I want to remind everyone that our school doors do not open until 8:30AM. With this being said, there is no adult supervision of students prior to that time unless your children are enrolled in the Before and After school YMCA program. Please do NOT drop students off for school prior to 8:30AM. Students have a 15-minute window from 8:30-8:45AM to arrive at school. Students should not arrive at school if walking or be dropped off in the carline prior to 8:30AM. It is not safe for groups of students to congregate outside of the building with no supervision. We appreciate your help and support with this. Also, to keep the carline moving once it begins, please do not drop off to the east of the gym door where students enter. We should be dropping off at numbers 1-8 and at an imaginary 9-10. Again, we appreciate your help and support in keeping our students safe and helping the carline run smoothly and efficiently.

Field Day
Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26th. Although Field Day may look a little different this year, we are excited for our students to get outside, run and play and compete in activities with one another. We want our students to be prepared for fun in the sun! Please supply your child with appropriate sun screen, hat, and athletic shoes that day. Please do not send your child to school in flip flops on field day as they tend to break. We will have plenty of water on hand to keep everyone cool. Bringing a water bottle that day is highly encouraged. Thank you for your help in this matter, we look forward to a day of fun with our students!

A Note from Nurse Kati . . .
Spring is here, which means allergy season is here! Allergy and Covid-19 symptoms can overlap, so please be sure to read this information regarding symptoms for both.
What is the difference between COVID-19 and seasonal allergies?
COVID-19 is a contagious respiratory illness caused by infection with a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19). Seasonal allergies triggered by airborne pollen can lead to seasonal allergic rhinitis, which affects the nose and sinuses, and seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, which affects the eyes.
COVID-19 and seasonal allergies share many symptoms, but there are some key differences between the two. For example, COVID-19 can cause fever, which is not a common symptom of seasonal allergies.
Because some symptoms of COVID-19 and seasonal allergies are similar, it may be difficult to tell the difference between them, and you may need to get a test to confirm your diagnosis.
*Seasonal allergies do not usually cause shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, unless a person has a respiratory condition such as asthma that can be triggered by exposure to pollen.
A Note from PTA . . .
The last Papa John’s pizza nights of the school year are Tuesday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 12. These nights are Horace Mann nights at Papa John’s Pizza where 20% of anything ordered in store or online will be given back to our school! A flyer with more details will be sent home closer to the date.
Mann Masks are still available for purchase through our square site and will be sent home with your student the week of or week after your purchase date. Youth masks are now $4 each and adult masks are $5 each. Please be sure to put your student’s name and teacher in the comment box at checkout if ordering online. Masks can be ordered at http://horacemannpta.square.site/
Student Directories, which list student addresses and phone numbers, are available for purchase. (Mann students enrolled in the Launch program are also included in the directory.) Teachers are not able to send birthday party invitations home from school, so the directory is a great way to get contact information for classmates. The directories are $5 each and can be ordered on our square site or by sending your payment and a note with your child’s name, teacher, and stating you want a directory to school. It will be sent home with your child.

Red Tickets and PRIDE Focus
P.R.I.D.E. is our positive behavior support system here at Mann. P.R.I.D.E. at Mann stands for Positive*Respectful*Integrity*Dependable*Effort. During the month of May we will be focusing on PRIDE throughout the building as a whole. Teachers talk about these words often with their students. This month they will be focused on positive behaviors in all settings and looking for students who exhibit PRIDE to award Red Tickets to.
