Different types of hardware connections to connect devises
Optical Cable
Optical cable is a new cable to connect a television to a sound system. It is much higher quality than anything else and is used a lot for surround sound systems.
SCART Lead
A SCART lead is used to connect devises to televisions, like Sky box and xbox etc. It also formats the picture to fit the screen automatically.
VGA (Video Graphics Array)
Its found on many video cards and computer monitors. Its primarily used to connect computer to computer screens.
USB (Universal Serial Bus)
USB cables are used to connect devises like external hard drives, and some mouses to the computer.
HMDI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
Used on new televisions for HD picture, you cant have a 1080p telly that doesn't use HDMI cables. Also used to connect xbox's/skybox's etc to the TV.
Media Card/SD Reader
The media card bit is a bit outdated but the SD card is still in use. The reader is used for getting pictures off your camera and letting you save them on your PC.
FireWire
FireWire is used to stream movies from your camera to your computer. If you wanted to save your pictures you'd be better off using a SD reader.
Line in/out
Line in/out is used, for example, to connect your amp to your computer so you can play your guitar and record what your playing in good quality. it can also be used to connect sound from a devise to your TV for example, but youd get better quality from an optical cable if that was all you wanted to use it for.
