Superintendent's Letter
March 16, 2020
Dear Staff, Parents, and Community Members,
The day began with staff meetings throughout the District to discuss how best to support our students and families through this challenging time.
Our staff members are working incredibly hard to move forward with remote learning as quickly as possible, while also trying to provide work that is meaningful for our students.
Lebanon High School will begin to connect remotely with students this week. Hanover Street School, Mount Lebanon Elementary School, and the Middle School will launch remote learning on Monday, March 23rd.
We are trying to get a sense of technology needs, and would appreciate your completing the surveys that were recently sent. You may also receive a phone call. We will do our best to provide technology support for every family.
Our schools will be open this Thursday from 12:00 pm -3:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Please plan to come to our schools at that time to pick up your child's belongings.
Please note that we need to follow social distancing practices. Please do not congregate in our schools or have lengthy conversations. We may be limiting the number of people in our schools during these times. We greatly appreciate your patience.
Also, keep in mind that students should be practicing social distancing during this time. Play dates, parties, and other forms of group social interactions should be avoided. It is important to remain at home whenever possible. Children can become ill from COVID-19. Please pay attention to symptoms such as fever and cough, and continue good hygiene practices such as washing hands and sanitizing surfaces regularly.
This morning, I met with Cafe Services and several administrators to focus on providing bagged meals. It is important that we follow federal and state regulations, or else we could jeopardize our funding. I contacted the DOE, and sent a letter that would allow us to move forward. The goal is to have families come to the SAU Office or LHS/HSS campus to pick up bagged meals starting this Thursday, March 19th at 10:00 a.m. We will follow this method until Monday, March 23rd.
On Tuesday, March 24th, we will switch to using our buses to deliver meals. Our buses will follow the bus routes stopping at each regular stop. Students will be able to pick up the bagged meals and also pick up/return homework assignments. We will have paraeducators on each bus helping to deliver the meals and also handing out/collecting assignments.
If you are a family that would like a bagged meal prepared for your child, please complete this meal delivery survey. Thank you!
I will definitely send a letter to confirm that we will be able to begin providing bagged meals on Thursday, and provide more specific information at that time.
Please know that our focus remains on our students and families. We miss having your children in our schools!
Thank you,
Dr. Joanne Roberts
