Fiber : Cotton
Advantage : control moisture , durable fabric , soft , provide comfort
Disadvantage :Shrinks and wrinkles easily
End uses : shirts , blouses , plants
drapes , sheets, towels
medical supplies , book bindings, luggage
fiber : flax/linen
Advantage : last longer , can be wash and dried easily .
Disadvantage : Can lose its charm if washed with hard water .It wrinkle and crease easily . A little expensive.
End Uses: suit , skirts , jackets , dresses , tablecloths , napkins , wallpaper
Fiber: Wool
Advantage :Extremely resilient when dry . Good drape (ability of fabric to fold while worn) . Good elastic. . Wrinkle easily fall out when exposed to humidity. Shape well
Disadvantage :Weak when wet , handle very gently .Dry cleaning is frequently the recommended method of cleaning . Can shrink up to half of its size if handled improperly .Its expensive .
End Uses : outwear , sports wear , sweaters, socks , suits
Ineriors- carpets , wall hanging (wool is the “look” against which synthetic carpets are measured )
Industrial - felt piece used in machines, used to clean up oil spills

Disadvantage : Poor resiliency ,Susceptible to wrinkle ,Low abrasion

Fiber : Lyocell
Advantage : Eco print , rich , moisture , absorbent, feel of fabric , versatile
Disadvantage : fibrillation
End uses : Filtration scrims and fabrics , hoses , belts , fire fighters turnout facing fabrics , knitted products such as underwear , balaclava and gloves . Thermal protective apparel where flash fire or electric are exposure is possible ; knits , sewing thread.
Fiber : Nylon
Advantage :length durablitity, can be combined with other materials
resilient,abrasion resistant,dyes easily
Disadvantage :melt easily , shrinks easily , reacts with moisture
fading, staining (stain resistant, not stain proof), affected by bleach
End uses :Ladies wear , lingerie , sportswear , rainwear , windbreakers, home furnishings , protective clothing conveyor and seat belts , ropes , sleeping bags , tents , tarpaulins , tire cord , threads , geotextile
Fiber : Olefin
Advantage : its strength , colorfastness and comfort ,its resistance to stain , mildew , abrasion , sunlight , and its good bulk and cover .
Disadvantage : Heat Sensitive
End Uses :t find its uses in automobile or vehicles interiors , non - woven fabrics , carpets , fences , upholstery ,clothing , planels, ropes , automotive parts, industrial
products ,etc, Finds its application in clothing and apparels , although at a minimal levels
Fiber : Polyester
Advantage : Tough and rigid processed by thermoplastic operations. Recycled into used products as basic for resins in such applications as sailboats , shower units , and floor tiles
colorfast, stain resistant,fade resistant
Disadvantage : not very strong and if oily stains set in , its hard to get of
End uses : Blouses , shirts , career apparel , permanents press garments , suits ,exec. Home furnishing , fire hoses , belts , ropes , tire cord .etc.
Fiber : Spandex
Advantage : lightweight , flexible and stretchy
Disadvantage : lightweight , flexible , and stretchy
doesn’t breath very well . Spandex melt easier than some other materials . Spandex have poor wicking properties
End Uses : Activewear , belts , bra, shorts . cycling jerseys , gloves, leggings, miniskirts , sock
