Mrs. Dufresne's Second Grade
October 20-25, 2014
Curriculum News
Students are looking at the poetry genre this week in Reading. Other skills that are being practiced are correcting run-on sentences, proof reading for capital letters and missing punctuation, and putting words in alphabetical order.
In Social Studies, we have been learning about the seven continents and oceans and in Science, we are beginning a unit on Earth Science. We will be conducting experiments to demonstrate erosion this week.
The focus in Math has been representing and solving comparison problems. We have been looking for hidden information as well as eliminating information that we don't need. It is important that students label their work as well. We are also focusing on math facts, adding and subtracting, up to 20. We will have a test on Unit 1 on Wednesday. I am sending home a multiple choice test for the students to practice for homework tonight or as a test review. The test they will take tomorrow will be a written test.

The second grade team has decided that students will not be wearing their costumes to school on Halloween. We have lots of great ways to celebrate the day planned and would ask that students leave their costumes at home that day. We are hoping that students will wear Halloween colors and shirts instead (no masks or hats, please!).
Please help your child collect pledges for the Fun Run and if you can, plan to come and watch to cheer them on! It should be a fun day!
