John Proctor

a.) John was a farmer who lived in Salem with his wife Elizabeth Proctor. John is a quick speaker who is firm in his beliefs. He hates hypocrisy, although he has a hidden sin that he is keeping from the town of Salem.


b.) the motivation behind John is to do the right thing witch ironically is what got him in trouble in the first place. He is very ashamed of himself but his leading motive is to not let his name be ruined.


c.) "I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"- John Proctor


d.) John Proctor is like joan of Arc because they both died for what they believed in.


e.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Daniel Day lewis to play John Proctor






Elizabeth Proctor

a.) Elizabeth is married to John Proctor and like John is strong in her faith. She becomes angry with John when she learns his secret of adultery, although she is still supportive of John.



b.) Elizabeths main focus throughout the play is to stand by her husband. She acts cold towards John, but still stands by him and lies to save his name.


c.)"Your husband-did he indeed turn from you?"- Danforth "My husband is a godly man sir."- Elizabeth "She only thought to save my name!"- John Proctor


d.) Elizabeth is like Hillary Clinton because she still stand by her husband, even though they had affairs with other women.


e.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Meryl Streep to play Elizabeth Proctor.

Abigail Williams

a.) Abigail is a servant of John proctor until Elizabeth Proctor finds out she had an affair with John. Abigail will stop at nothing to get John proctor. She is selfish and causes most of the problems in Salem.



b.) Abigail's motivation is clearly to get John Proctor to be her husband. She will stop at nothing and harm anyone just to get what she wants.


c.) "I think it is not easy to prove she is a fraud, and the town gone so silly. She told me in a room alone- I have no proof of it."- John Proctor


d.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Natalie Portman.

Deputy Governor Danforth

a.) Danforth is the deputy governor of Massachusetts. He believes strongly in helping fight witchcraft.



b.) Danforth is motivated to assert his authority and is a little power hungry. He uses the law to show how much authority he has.


c.) "No uncorrupt man may fear this court! None!"- Deputy Governor Danforth


d.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Dean Norris to play Deputy Governor Danforth.

Rev. Parris

a.) Parris the minister of Salem's church. He is very concerned with himself and his reputation in the town.



b.)Parris is motivated by keeping a good name. He is horrified of being an outcast to Salem. Throughout the play he will do or follow whatever helps his reputation.


c.) "Abigail, I have have fought here three long years to bend these stiff-necked people to me, and now, just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you comprise my very character."


d.)If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select William Dafoe

Rev. Hale

a.) Hale is a young minister who is claimed to be and expert on witchcraft. He goes to Salem to capture the supposed witches, but his presence in the town makes the towns people crazy and very paranoid.


b.) Hale is motivated by his faith. He just wants to do what is godly and make sure everyone follows the word of god.


c.)"You surely do not fly against the gospel."- Rev. Hale


d.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Tom Hanks

Mary Warren

a.) Mary is a quiet girl who's is easily persuaded. She is a servant of John Proctors and is a member of the group of girls that were committed of witchcraft.


b.) Mary seems to be motivated by Abigail. She is easy to persuade so she try's to do what is in her best interest by doing what other people tell her to do.


c.)"What'll we do? The village is out! I just come from the farm; the whole country's talkin' witchcraft! They'll be callin' us witches, Abby! Abby, we've got to tell."- Mary Warren


d.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Ann Hathaway to play Marry Warren.

Rebecca Nurse

a.) Rebecca is a wise wise and sensible old lady. She is also very respected throughout the town of Salem.


b.) Rebecca wants things to be just in the town. She is motivated to keep everthing just in the town, while keeping sanity.

d.) If I directed the new screen play for the Crucible I would select Betty White to play Rebecca Nurse.
