BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK
Bus Driver Appreciation Week is May 9 - 13! Driving a bus is a huge responsibility. Drivers have precise schedules which are sometimes interrupted by weather, accidents, maybe an occasional tractor and an assortment of many other scenarios; however, they still manage to get to their stops on time. They must manage up to 72 students’ behavior while abiding by the driving laws. In Tuscarora School District we are blessed to have wonderful drivers that truly care about your children. They are out there not only doing their job, but normally going above and beyond to make sure your children have a safe ride to and from school. Please take time during Bus Driver Appreciation week to express your gratitude for the care your children are given on the bus.
NEWS FROM THE NURSE
At last, spring is here. And hopefully it is here to stay.
The sun is shining and the birds are chirping.
What a great day to take a bike ride!
*Pennsylvania law requires that all children under age 12 to wear an approved helmet while riding*
Every day students tell me stories of riding and sometimes wrecking their bikes. I always ask them if they were wearing a helmet. Rarely am I told that they were.
Here are a few other things to remember before you take off:
- Unfortunately, the brain, once injured, cannot be fixed. So protect it!
- Wear bright clothing so drivers and other bikers can see you.
- Obey the rules of the road. You must follow all signs and signals, just like cars.
- Ride on the right side of the road, in the same direction as traffic.
- Look both ways. Most accidents happen at intersections or driveways so be on the lookout for those who may not see you.
- Ride on bike trail, roads with little traffic or parks. If you do come to a busy road, walk your bike across intersections at a crosswalk.
- Keep your bike tuned up. You don’t want to get a flat far away from home!
- Protect your bike. Lock it up or keep it in a safe place when you’re not using it.
- Ride with friends. It’s more fun and you have someone to help you if you need it.
LABELS FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM
The school will still be collecting BoxTops, so please continue to save them, and send them in!
