September 30th
Dear JE community,
ENGAGEMENT AND INSTRUCTION UPDATE:
I am energized by the engagement I am seeing in our classrooms! Last year, I used the word "calm" to describe our learning environments. This year, I use the words "supportive, collaborative and energetic!" This shift is intentional and exciting to be a part of! Your children are absolutely incredible and our staff is working to unleash their great potential and facilitate a sense of ownership in their learning.
ATTENDANCE UPDATE:
As the month comes to a close, we are looking at comparative attendance data. Our average monthly average from last year was 97.95% and this year, it is 97.35%.
In the month of September we had:
- 217 absences
- 47 tardies
- 74 dismissals
Our monthly goal is 98% attendance. Please partner with us to ensure our students have access to the education we provide and experience a consistent schooling experience.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Important! Please submit your portal forms!!
There are two forms:
Pupil Information Form -sent to the primary contact only to update any student information, including medical info, student permissions -including photos, Acceptable Use Policy, etc., emergency childcare and Connect Ed emergency notification info. Please submit BOTH forms.
Contact Update Form – each contact associated with a student will see this form. It includes, name, address, home/mobile/office phone, primary and alternate email address. Contacts are instructed to notify the office with changes to primary email addresses because this will impact your portal login and will have to be sent another activation code. You are not able to change this on the form, it is read only. Each contact will need to log into the portal to see this form.
To recap:
Primary Contact will see both forms in the portal to update pupil information and update their own contact info.
All other contacts will only see only the Contact Update form to update their own contact info.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

PTO's Corner
We hope everyone has been enjoying the beautiful fall weather! This week, we have a few ways you can support the PTO, as well as the opportunity to buy your child (or yourself!) some JE swag.
Room Parents Needed: The PTO is seeking 2 room parents for McQuillin, Quinn, Donlon, and Emery. We could also use 1 more room parent for Lewis, Johnston, and Derosier. Please email JEVolunteers@gmail.com if you can help!
The Calareso’s gift certificate fundraiser starts Monday 10/3!
Raise money by shopping at Calareso’s Farm Stand & Garden Center. Purchase gift certificates through JE PTO and 25% of your purchase goes directly to our school. Order forms with instructions will go home in backpacks this week. Payment by check, PayPal or Venmo will be accepted this year. Order forms and payment will be due by Friday October 21.
Our Direct Donation drive continues! We kindly ask families that are able to donate $30 per child to the PTO so that we can continue to provide enrichment experiences to our students throughout the school year. Pay by check made out to the Joshua Eaton PTO (and dropped off or mailed to JE at 365 Summer Ave). Pay Online via PayPal, the Joshua Eaton homepage, or Venmo (@Joshua-Eaton-PTO). QR codes are also listed below. Please include “Direct Donation” or your student’s name & grade in the comment field. Thank you for your support!
JE Spiritwear: It may be hard to believe, but the holiday season is around the corner. If your family likes to show their JE spirit, consider a gift from the JE Spiritwear store. Orders must be placed by November 1. Visit the store at the link here.
Have a great week!

Reading Public Schools is a METCO District
"Since its founding during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement, the METCO program has enrolled tens of thousands of Boston students of color in predominately white school districts, creating the opportunity for those districts to experience the advantages of learning and working in a racially and ethnically diverse setting."
Found Family Program
Please take a look at the attached document detailing our “Found Family” Program. With the collaboration of 8th grade students from Parker Middle School and all Elementary PTO’s we produced the name “Found Family,” and this document for our district Found Family program. What does Found Family mean? “A group of people who find themselves united in a family-bond based on shared experiences, mutual understanding, and interpersonal connection. Found Family is not biological but found when placed in a new place.”
