2016 Police Unity Tour
This year, Officer Chase rode in honor of Trooper Trevor Casper, of the Washington State Patrol. Trooper Casper was shot and killed in Fond du Lac while attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect at approximately 5:30 pm. The subject was believed to have robbed a bank is Wausaukee four hours earlier. An hour after the bank robbery the suspect abandoned the vehicle he was driving, murdered a citizen, and stole a second vehicle in Marinette County. Trooper Casper located the second vehicle as it was being driven through Fond du Lac and began following it. He was directing other officers to their location when the man pulled into a grocery store parking lot and stopped. The man exchanged shots with the responding officers and Trooper Casper was fatally shot. The subject was also shot and killed by return fire by Trooper Casper. At only 21 years old, Trooper Casper had graduated from the police academy only three months prior to the incident, and was on his first shift after being cut loose from field training. Trooper Casper is survived by his parents and two sisters.

USITT continues its Rigging Safety Initiative with another 11 free rigging inspections and safety training for schools. The Rigging Safety Initiative invites applications from schools twice a year and tries to accept at least 10 schools each round. It is open to any secondary school in the nation. The next round of applications will be accepted in the fall.
Burlington County Institute of Technology in Medford, NJ was selected as one of the 11 recipients this year!!
USITT launched the RSI five years ago and has since accepted over 120 schools into the program. The schools get a free rigging inspection and safety training performed by USITT's partner rigging companies, which charge USITT a reduced rate.
The RSI operates with sponsorship from JR Clancy, ETC, H&H Specialties and Shepard Exposition Services, as well as donations from individual supporters. The goal is to instill best stage safety practices at high school level and prevent school rigging systems from going uninspected for years for lack of funding.

~Medford Tech rallies for softball title share~BCT Staff John A Lewis*
"There is always one inning where we get all the errors out of our system, and then we come from behind," Medford Tech coach Lee Suabedissen said. "We've been doing it all season. It's been amazing."
Once the Jaguars got a disastrous fourth out of the way Thursday, it was their show. Zoey Emmons, Shannon Dorety and Taylor Martelak all had two RBIs apiece as Medford Tech came from five runs down to beat Palmyra 7-6 and claim a share of the Burlington County Scholastic League Independence Division.
It was the first softball title of any kind for the Jaguars (11-11, 7-1), who joined BCSL in 1998. It also brought and end to Palmyra's two-year, 15-game win streak in Independence Division games.
It was the sixth time this season the Jaguars came from behind to win a game.
"They earned their right to say they're division champs by playing really well," Palmyra coach Ken Miller said. "You can't take anything away from them. But it's frustrating; we're up 5-0, and then they made it 5-4. I think that crept into our heads a little."
The Panthers earned the same right, though, with what they achieved in their first seven division games.
