Halloween Party Fun

ATP students enjoyed our annual Halloween Dance Party. They learned how to make treats and helped decorate our atrium. Then they had lots of fun dancing and playing games together. These are not only times to have fun, but are also important opportunities for our students to interact and improve their social skills.

ATP Hero Thrift Shop Now Open

The ATP Hero Thrift Shop now has a dedicated space in the building. We are so excited to be able to teach our students work skills on our site. So many more students are able to participate. Our students are learning how to sort and hang clothes, display items for sale, price items for sale, customer service skills and how to handle money responsibly. Every classroom is involved in some way with our shop! Come visit us on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 11:30am. Our address is 707 Carey Rd. See you there!

ASB Sample Shoe Sale Fundraiser!

ATP now has an Associated Student Body (ASB)! Our first event is a women's sample shoe sale. We have brand new women's shoes that were donated for the sale. These are high end shoes that we are selling at highly discounted prices. All proceeds will go towards ATP student events. Since these are sample shoes, our sizes are limited to size 6, 6.5, 7, 8 (most are size 6 and 7).

When: Monday, November 7 1:00-2:30pm AND

Wednesday, November 9 12:00-1:30pm (weather permitting)

Where: 707 Carey Rd ( off of Mission Avenue in Oceanside).

Jim Hinderliter

Hello, my name is Jim Hinderliter. I have been teaching in Special Education at OUSD for 23 years. I was a paraprofessional for a few years before that , and I am in my 10th year at the Adult Transition Program. I was born and raised in Oceanside. I received my BA from Humboldt State University, where I always made time to hike in the beautiful Redwood forests . In college. I worked as a manager of Toys R Us and worked at Scripps Research Institute. I received my teaching credentials from Cal State San Marcos. I continue to enjoy hiking, kayaking, camping, gardening, following the (San Diego!) Chargers and the Padres, and taking trips to places near and far. I especially like to visit my family in Maui! I am also involved in youth ministry, choir, and in men's support groups at my church. I always enjoy opportunities to sing a tune and to make a joyful noise. You are always welcome to come to my singing class at school!

Jennifer Lind

My name is Jennifer, and I am a new Education Specialist for ATP. A little about me…I have been teaching for the past 22 years in San Diego. I have taught for San Diego Unified and various other companies, teaching both Special Education and Art and Ceramics. I double majored at UC Santa Cruz in Psychology and Art, and have my Master’s Degree in Special Education. I have a teaching Credential in Special Education, as well as a Single subject credential in Art. I’m very excited this year to join the ATP team, where I can reach out and help our students to become more independent, as well as support them with their academic needs.

When I'm not working, I’m either surfing, gardening, painting or adventuring in the California state parks. I love camping, hiking and exploring in the Sierras with my family. I’m also an avid artist, focusing mainly on seascape and landscape water color and impressionistic oil paintings. In addition, I enjoy reading and visiting our local museums at Balboa Park; especially the San Diego Art Museum.
