Field Trip
At the library, we will learn about our community and how it has changed in the Indiana History room. We will also get a tour of the children's room and be allowed to check out a book or two.
For those of you who are new to Plainfield, do go visit the public library. It is WONDERFUL! In addition to books, you can find dvds, books on tape (great for car trips) and even tax forms! They have great children's programs, and classes for adults, too!
THE POWER OF STRUGGLE
In her newsletter to teachers this week, Mrs. Thacker shared this quote by Sylvia Rimm. As parents, it's hard to watch our kids struggle, but we do it over and over...when they learn to walk, ride a bike, learn math facts. We WANT to do it for them, but we can't...
The surest path to positive self-esteem is to succeed at something which one perceived would be difficult. Each time we steal a student's struggle we steal the opportunity to build self-confidence. They must learn to do hard things to feel good about themselves.
... and in Mrs. Thacker's words...
As you work with students this week, think about the work you present to them. I encourage you to challenge your students and work with them as they grapple with harder tasks. Don't rush quickly through the struggle in order to help students, stealing the opportunity for growth. Rather pause, guide and push students to solve their problems, waiting with them for the thrill of success and the celebrations that will follow.
