A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA

Dear Jaguar Band Families,

Last week was a great week, and I believe this week is going to be even better!! Here are a few things going on this week!

Parents and Students! We need every student to create their video for the band's production/publication video we are creating. Currently, we have had fewer than 20% of our band students create and submit their individual videos! We need EVERY STUDENT to create and submit their video as soon as possible. Here is a link to the instructions, audio track and file upload locations: https://bit.ly/3oJjs4G. Again, we need EVERY STUDENT to follow these instructions carefully and upload their file. Parents, please help us ensure everyone participates!

There is an adjustment to this weeks school schedule; however, it will not impact our band's Game-Day Schedule. Friday, November 6, day will now be a Virtual-Asynchronous learning day. This is for the school day only!!! We have a football game that night against San Antonio, Veterans HS. Our regular home game schedule will be followed. This also means we will have the meal plan on Friday. If you are on the band's meal plan, your meal will be available at 4:30 p.m. as usual. The number of meals for this week's game and vendor have already been contracted and cannot be changed.

Additionally, Monday, November 9, is also a Virtual-Asynchronous day. We will have our regularly-scheduled after-school practice from 5 - 8 p.m. Everyone attends! We will continue to add the final portions of our “JOHNSON: this is us” show!

Region/Area/All-State auditions are getting closer!! Keep practicing!!! We would love to have even more Jaguar Band Members earn Region Band honors than last year!!

The end of the 9 weeks will be here in less than two weeks, and you want to make sure you are passing ALL classes!! This report card impacts your eligibility for the Region band auditions as well as the final two football games of the season, and will impact the playoffs if our team continues its winning ways!!

Let’s have a great week this week and Go Jags!!!

Mr. Lucita

IMPORTANT DATES

November 2 and 5

Full Band Rehearsal, 5 - 8 p.m.

November 6

Send Off the Band to the Game, 6:05 p.m. @ Johnson High School

JHS vs San Antonio--Veterans High School (Shelton Stadium @ Hays High School), 7:30 p.m.

Turn in your video submissions ASAP!

Parents! We need your help! Check-In for Band

We need help making sure each student has submitted their daily COVID screening before band practice and game days. Every week we struggle to get enough volunteers. It's easy, and a great way to get to know the students! Please click here to sign up!

Other things you will want to know to be ready for this week!

  • Check out the new Johnson Band Spirit Gear!
  • Wind and Percussion students will need blue JEANS for their uniforms this week! blue should be on the dark side; however, we do understand that there are various shades of dark blue. NO holes or rips in the jeans! and we will still use black socks!
  • The OFFICIAL JAGUAR BAND MASKS and jugs are part of your uniform! If you need additional/replacement MASKS, click here! All items purchased online can be picked up on Mondays from 7:15 - 8 p.m.
  • Daily COVID Screening: Students should fill out the Daily COVID Screening Form BEFORE coming to ALL practices AND game days.
  • Join us at JHS to send off the band to the football game Friday, October 23, at 6:05 p.m.
  • The new show shirts (JOHNSON: This is Us!) are also available again for purchase!

Sign Up to Sell Spirit Gear at Games

We need volunteers to help sell our Johnson Swag during football games. With limited fundraising opportunities due to COVID, selling at games is a great opportunity for us to raise funds that can help support the Jaguar Band.

You will be working with someone who is in charge of the cash box and who knows what to do. The only requirements are that you bring a fully charged cell phone and have the Square App on your phone so that you can charge customers. Please know that the Spirit Gear table is open for as long as you are busy/selling items. For the first game, we sold right through until the game ended, but for the second game, we closed down during the 4th quarter.

Email Carmen Sifuentes at vpfundraising@johnsonbands.com if you have any questions.

Rookie Corner

This section is for all new (Rookie!) parents! Here we will focus on various points of information that we believe would be helpful to families new to the Jaguar Band.

Full uniform

Please help your student remember the full uniform includes bringing the band-issued water jug (already filled with water), the official band mask, and black socks!

COMING SOON! Parent Section Leads

Don't know what a "bibber" is? Not sure what time your child needs to be at the school? Have you wondered any other questions that your child didn't know but that you didn't want to go to the directors to ask? Well, we have the solution for you! The Jaguar Band will now be having "Parent Section Leads". There will be a parent designated per section that will be available to you as a first source of information! This will be a great way for us to not only improve our lines of communication but to build relationships in our Jaguar Band family during a challenging time - something that is usually easier to do when we are all seeing each other so often during a regular "Bandtober"! So keep your eyes open for an email from your Parent Section Lead!

Volunteer !

You don't have to be a "veteran" member to volunteer for a committee! In fact, with such a young band, it is important that rookie parents step into roles early - just like our students are having to do! We will start preparing for the 2021 marching season this Spring, so please know that we will be reaching out via email soon! Or better yet, let us know if you have any particular interests by filling out our Committee Interest Form!

Communications

The band directors and boosters primarily rely on Charms to communicate information. Make sure your information is up to date in Charms. Reminder that the Jaguar Band school code is: JohnsonJaguarBand

Football Program Ads: Celebrate your student! Promote your business! It's not too late!!

Missed the deadline to submit your celebration ad? Well, it's not too late! We are still taking orders for FOOTBALL PROGRAM ADS and ask all of our band families to share this information with friends and acquaintances. Ads submitted before the next printing deadline (generally Fridays) will be included in the next weeks program. For details and templates, click here.

Order a personal ad to celebrate your student in this year's Jaguar football program! These programs are a great keepsake and is open to all Johnson students. Your personal ad will be featured in every home Jaguar football game program published this season! The football programs are also great advertising space for local businesses!

Football Game Information: Volunteering, Live stream games, Reserved parking, and Jag Swag!

VOLUNTEERS

Please know that we LOVE how many parents are offering to volunteer this year to help with pit crew. Unfortunately, due to COVID and in order to follow district safety regulations, we have been limited to only eight people that can be designated as Pit Crew and receive free admission to the games.

Please know that other parents can assist with any unmet pit crew needs or chaperoning RR breaks but those volunteers must purchase a ticket and will not be able to return to stand seats after assisting. Ticket-holder pit crew or chaperone volunteers must remain with the band.

  • All volunteers at Shelton games must purchase a ticket. (*this requirement does not apply to the designated 8 Pit Crew volunteers)
  • ALL volunteers will be required to fill out the COVID protocol google doc listed on the athletic booster website on the day they volunteer. This MUST be done for every game.
  • All volunteers must wear a mask at all times.
  • All pit crew and chaperone volunteers located near the band must wear their issued band volunteer shirt.
  • If volunteers arrive during school hours, they will also be required to check-in at the school front office. The front office will verify that volunteers filled out the form.

Pit crew volunteers should contact Clover Clamons at pitcrew@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and to obtain their volunteer shirts

All other volunteers, including chaperones, should contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and obtain their volunteer shirt.

Watch Live Varsity Games

The band will only perform at "home" games (and the Lehman "away" game). Fans can watch all home and away games at http://vypelive.com/web/team/view?id=6600. Please feel free to share!

Reserved Parking Spots

The South parking lot at Shelton Stadium is a reserved parking lot for Varsity Games. We are selling the reserved parking spots to anyone who might want one. This will guarantee you a spot until kick-off. All information regarding the parking spot is located on our website.

Spirit Wear: online and at football games!

The new hats and spirit gear are now available for order via our website.

We have a soft-style and trucker style hat available along with two new t-shirt designs and an ultra-comfortable long sleeve hoodie shirt. Items are in stock and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis with additional items being ordered at regular intervals. Orders will be available for pick up at JHS on Mondays and this information will be communicated via email.

Big picture

Band Sponsorships and opportunity to put Student names on trailer!

The Johnson Jaguar Band depends in large part on the fundraising efforts of the Band Boosters. Sponsorships are a very important part of fundraising. Our Sponsorship levels have been updated, and we have a lot of exciting options for businesses AND families! We ask that every family please share this brochure with anyone you know that has a business. We are eager to help promote businesses in our community that support the Jaguar Band! If you would like color copies of our Sponsorship Brochure, we are happy to provide them.

A new addition to our Sponsorship options is the Friends and Family Level. This level offers various options for businesses as well as an option for band families: For $200, you can have your child’s name and graduation year on our band trailer indefinitely with the option to simultaneously add sibling name for an additional $100.

Details of all Sponsorship Options can be found at https://www.johnsonbands.com/sponsorships.

Thank you for your support of the Johnson Jaguar Band!
