Steve Jobs

Life Brief
Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955. His mother, Joanne Schieble, learned she was pregnant while attending graduate school. Clara and Paul Jobs convinced Schieble to complete the adoption by promising that Jobs will go to college. He struggled to fit in from grade school through college because of how much smarter he was than everyone in his class. Furthermore, he adopted a more hippie life during college, going on various diets, using Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) to achieve a deeper consciousness, and dropped out of college. He began working with Steve Wozniak, his closest friend, on the first personal computer. Jobs started Apple and got fired from the company as well. Although Steve was angry that he was fired, he didn't discourage himself and built Pixar and Next to compete with Apple. Steve Jobs had many girlfriends, but only 2 continued relationships. His first relationship was with Chrisann Brennan, who was pregnant with Job's daughter, Lisa. Steve Jobs shunned his daughter for many years, but he finally spent time with her. On the contrary, he married Laurence Powell and had a child with her. Steve Jobs learned about his biological sister, Mona Simpson, after meeting his birth mother, Joanne Schieble.
Background Symbolism
Pick 3
1. Steve Jobs emphasized a more hippie personality in front of his peers by practicing varying diets, and using LSDs to achieve deeper levels of consciousness. Blumenthal states, " He [Jobs] began to experiment with fasting and rigid diets, such as eating only fruits and vegetables... experimented with LSD, in an effort to reach a deeper form of consciousness" ( Blumenthal 56).
2. Although it may seem that Jobs has only achieved success with Apple, he has argued and left Apple because of disagreements between the president and Jobs. Blumenthal explains, "Then, he said, 'I got fired.' It was a bone-rattling experience... 'I hired the wrong guy, and he destroyed everything I'd spent ten years working for" (Blumenthal 204).
3. Jobs was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs, which surprised me because my portrait of Jobs was a man who faced no struggles or losses of the family; however, Blumenthal explains, "'So does that mean your real parents didn't want you?' she asked. the innocent question hit him like a punch to the stomach planting a frightening thought that had never occurred to him" (Blumenthal 22).

Symbol
Steve Jobs is best symbolized by an oak tree because of his personality and vast influence in technology. Blumenthal explains, "Each time he saw it, Jobs would disapprove" (Blumenthal 165). Jobs is very stubborn and persistent, and doesn't like changing his idea to match someone else's design. He disapproved every design that wasn't identical to the design Steve Jobs wanted for the Macintosh. The tree doesn't like changing as well and is deeply rooted to avoid change in different environments. In addition to stubbornness, Jobs is also persistent and will not give up until he reaches his goal. Correspondingly, the oak tree is persistent towards growing upwards, disregarding the tough winds or environment. Furthermore, the roots of the tree symbolize Job's widespread influence in the technology industry because of his ingenious products.
