ROADRUNNER RUNDOWN
Van Raub Elementary- 1/27/2023
MESSAGE FROM MRS. GAULT
This next week our 5th-grade students will be participating in the Boerne Outdoor Academy (BOA) at HEB foundation camp! This will be a wonderful experience. We will also be celebrating being 100 days smarter this week on Thursday, February 2nd! To celebrate being 100 days smarter, students can wear clothes with 100 things on them or can dress like they are 100.
This next week is the last week to collect items for the Love Delivered campaign. If you feel so inclined we have a collection box in the school entry for donations. Thank you to those who have donated already!
Please check your child's doctor's note when your child returns to school. This week we have had about 4 incidents where the note says a child can return to school on one date and the student has arrived here prior to that date. Unfortunately, we have to follow the doctor's note. Thank you for your attention and help with this. Keep reminding your children to wash their hands, eat well and get plenty of rest- we have seen multiple cases of strep, flu, and stomach virus recently. We want our Roadrunners safe and healthy!
Since the holiday break, we have seen a significant increase in toys, stuffed animals, and items such as Pokemon cards being brought to school. These items are causing disruptions in classrooms and at dismissal. Please encourage your child to leave those items at home. They are not intended for the classroom or school unless their teacher asks them to bring something in for a lesson. Also, we have had some students trading the cards, some have been lost and it causes issues. We appreciate your help in encouraging your child to leave these items safely at home.
As always, Thank you for sharing your precious children with us each week! We hope that you all have an amazing weekend!
Be Blessed,
Mrs. Gault

LOVE DELIVERED - Let's show some VRES love!
BISD is once again partnering with Day 1 Bags to deliver Valentine’s day cards and fuzzy socks to those often overlooked on Valentine’s Day, Nursing Home Residents, and Local Foster Youth.
Our goal is for every BISD student to create one Valentine’s card, however, we would love to achieve multiple cards per student. Please strive to have students write a kind note on each Valentine (no blank valentine donations, please).
- Elementary students can craft and donate for the Nursing home residents and Secondary for the Foster youth.
- Please ensure that any sock donations and cards are gender-neutral.
- Unopened candy will also be accepted and used for Valentine’s Day Deliveries by Day 1 Bags.
Please see the photo below for additional information.
We appreciate your support and help with this important community outreach project!

Parent Speaker Series
The next event in the Parent Education Speaker series, titled One Pill Can Kill and Cyber Danger, will take place on Thursday, February 16th from 6-7pm at Champion High School.
Panel Guests will discuss the dangers that our students face, such as Fentanyl as well as online. This is an encore discussion on the two topics for those who were unable to attend the events in the fall semester.
All Boerne ISD parents, students, and community members are invited to attend.
For more information please see the graphic.

RAVE ABOUT A ROADRUNNER
Our teachers have the opportunity to nominate students for doing fantastic things on our campus. These nominations can be for academic or character-related greatness. We believe in promoting positive character traits, student success, and of course, most importantly being a good human! A few of the many traits that we promote are kindness, empathy, perseverance, leadership, service, responsibility, compassion, honesty, and treating your neighbor the way you would want to be treated. It is great to celebrate our students each morning. We are blessed that Van Raub has so many amazing kiddos to rave about!
Here are this week's Raveworthy Roadrunners:
LIBRARY SCOOP
We are so excited to share about our upcoming author visit in March! Don Tate will be coming to Van Raub after spring break! This visit is sponsored by our fabulous PTO! Don Tate is an author and an illustrator. He will be happy to autograph any of his books during his visit, so you may want to see about ordering a book or purchasing one of his titles at a bookstore. He has more than 25 books to his credit. Here are a few of the titles that he has authored or illustrated. More information will be coming in the weeks ahead...Happy Reading!
This week in the Library...
Newton's second law of motion made for a great STEAM time making snowman shooters in the library after students (first and second graders) heard the story The Snowbear by Sean Taylor. Reading and science connections were made with the book and the activity. Then, we laughed and sent our snowballs into flight with the force from our Snowman's hat (balloons.) Wonderful, fun learning!
Kinder friends listened to the same, delightful story about the Snowbear helping his friends find their way home up the steep, snowy mountain. These students "chopped" the word snowman and used chalk to illustrate their image. Kindergarteners are learning to put sounds together and many are reading!
Third graders used Jamboard to share facts they found about sharks and Eugenie Clark using Britannica on-line and Kid InfoBits. Gathering information and sharing it in clear sentences is an important skill that students demonstrated with ease on their shark images they chose from Google images. Super job!
We had our fifth Fun Friday with students building, creating, and exploring in the library today. Students made snowmen with marshmallows, created snowflakes, and even had a snowball fight with pom poms! Those that were able to come down for a visit enjoyed their experience and look forward to another visit. A big thank you to three parent volunteers that helped make this event a success!
