Third Grade Thrills

Class Parties
I have had some questions about our parties in third grade. As I mentioned in my packet from Open House, we do parties a bit different this year.
Rather than having individual classroom parties, we do literacy rotations in the morning. Each class rotates to each of the third grade teachers' rooms for a holiday themed literacy activity. In the afternoon, we have a grade level celebration. This involves treats and a holiday movie together in the library.
A couple weeks before each celebration, the third grade teachers will send out a Sign Up Genius requesting the needed snacks for that party. In the past we have done a cookies and juice party, a sundae bar party, and a cheese, sausage, crackers, fruit, and rice krispy treat party. These are just some examples from the past. We have not actually sat down as a third grade team to plan our Halloween Celebration yet. The kiddos will be invited to wear their costumes for the literacy rotations in the morning if they so choose for the Halloween party. The third grade teachers do not ask parents to send in money for holiday parties. We will just ask parents to donate food, plates, and napkins for parties with the Sign Up Genius.
Last year we also did a Muffins with Moms Celebration and Donuts with Dads Celebration towards the end of the school year. We really enjoyed this time with our parents and will most likely continue the tradition this year. Closer to this time, the third grade teachers will ask for a money donation to offset the cost for these two events.
I was not consulted with, regarding expenses that will be incurred before monetary collection was requested. I am extremely sorry for the confusion.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend,
Melissa
