Believe In You & the Cougar Qualities
Dear Cougar Family,
Last fall, we reflected on the Cougar Qualities through focused lessons during seven morning activity schedules. For several of the lessons, we used the Believe in You series by Herff-Jones,
"an episodic series designed to educate students and staff about the incredible power of believing in yourself, despite the challenges and trials that life may present." The series is hosted by Kevin Atlas and features "personalities from around the country who have overcome personal challenges to accomplish the extraordinary." (The link in the title will take you to the full series of videos along with detailed lessons you might want to peruse if you want to go "ALL IN" on the series.)
In the spirit of being "ALL IN," we have once again tapped into this outstanding resource to put together three activities for advocate classes this week, linking the Cougar Qualities with these powerful stories. If you have not yet completed the safety videos from last week, please do those first (see the emails from Southard). Then use these videos and discussion activities as a means to make powerful connections with the students in your advocate classes. Since there are three lessons, you have some flexibility as to which days you choose to use the activities with your advocate.
Please take a moment to peruse the definition of the noun form of "advocate" below. How are these definitions applicable to your advocate class? Advocate time gives educators a unique opportunity to let students know that we are here to serve them and advocate on their behalves through building strong relationships with the classroom community and mixing study time with activities that promote personal growth and understanding of others. The students in your advocate classes should feel connected to you and their classmates, more so than your other classes due to the 30 minutes of bonus time you all have together each day. That time equates to more than two extra class periods of time each week. Let's use that time well!
Enjoy the videos and discussion! I can't wait to see how you go ALL IN with your advocate this week!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!
Tiffany
P.S. Next week, we will have some expectations videos that will be need to be shown in advocate as well.
Also, the tutorial bus starts running this Monday!
Join the NEW CSHS Remind Account(s)!
We now have two groups, and we will discontinue use of our previous Remind group. Please click here for instructions on how to join the appropriate group based on your last name. We will send the same message to both groups. We will use these Remind groups for fun reminders along with important information on emergency drills, etc., so make sure you join!
Goal Setting Meetings
Please see the resources provided in our Schoology Staff Course and your evaluator's T-TESS/ATR course for more information.
Welcome to our new staff!
Important Reminders About Visitors & Deliveries
Notes from Rachel at the front desk:
1. If you are expecting a guest speaker, please remember that they MUST first have been cleared by HR and filled out the appropriate application form to be a guest speaker for your class. This entire process takes around two weeks, so please plan accordingly and have your guest fill out the application in plenty of time.
2. Former students are not allowed to visit with teachers unless there have been prior arrangements made with that teacher. If you have a student you are meeting with, please let Rachel Tydlacka know via email in advance or the student will not be allowed to go to your classroom.
3. If you have ordered food from a delivery service, please do not send a student down to get it. We have had many students state the food is for their "teacher" when in fact it was for them, but we can not always double check this. In all fairness to the other students, please pick up your own lunches from delivery services to avoid confusion.
4. If you are expecting a visitor to arrive after 4:00 pm, please be aware that the front doors are locked at that time to prevent students from re-entering the building. Please come to the front office to greet your guests and escort them to your meeting place.
