March 2018
Principal's Message
Parents and Community Stakeholders,
We had an eventful February as we celebrated our 100th day of school, shot for our own goals in combination with our Olympians, engaged in Digital Learning Day, had a visit from the new superintendent, and engaged in activities and celebrations revolving around Black History Month. Our 4th graders visited Monticello, multiple grade levels traveled on Blue Sky Field Trips, and we had visitors from the Jamestown/Yorktown foundation to share history and artifacts from colonial days past.
We will be off and running as March begins with Read Across America Week. Dr. Suess Day will be the first Friday in March. We want to ensure our students and staff are involved in promoting literacy at home and in school! We will continue to encourage our students' love of literacy throughout the month with guest readers coming in and our "One School One Book" kick-off! We will also have our Annual Chimborazo basketball game this month, celebrate literacy through art night, and entrench ourselves in biology and physics lessons with the Math Science Innovation Center.
Academically, interims go out the first day of March. Conferences take place the second week in March and information has been disseminated about transportation for those parents who may have difficulty making it to the meetings. Teachers will be reaching out to you to schedule these, however, if they have not, feel free to contact your child's teacher to ensure you are scheduled. If you are unable to physically come to the school, please schedule a phone conference with them. These conferences are imperative in order to discuss your student's progress, celebrate their accomplishments, and come up with a plan to help them be successful.
Lastly, I want to ensure you that safety continues to be one of the priorities at Chimborazo. We had a lockdown drill to practice our safety protocols this week and continue to refine and improve on these. Additionally, we have several students who are being dropped off unsupervised at the front of the school several minutes before the doors open at 8:45 a.m.. Teachers do not begin duty until this time, so please ensure you are dropping your students off on the playground side of the building as close to 8:45 as possible. We want to ensure our students stay safe. On that same note, please be advised that instruction starts at 9 a.m., and it is vital that students are in their classes ready for instruction at this time. Consistent tardiness and absenteeism eventually leads to academic gaps due to missed work and instruction. Thank you for your cooperation and, as always, thank you for your valued support and contributions to making Chimborazo a world-class school!
Respectfully,
David T. Peck
Principal of the Mighty Chimborazo Jaguars

Attendance matters
Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
Box Tops
Look for the 10¢ Box Tops coupon on hundreds of your favorite products -- Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Ziploc, Kleenex, Hefty, and many more.
Cut out the coupons and ask your child to give them to their teacher. The more coupons you send in, the more money our school receives!
