CHANGES TO STUDY LEAVE FOR 2022 - Yr 11, 12 & 13
30 September 2022
Dear Parents and Whānau,
It is fair and reasonable to say 2022 has been an extraordinary year by all accounts, here at Kaitaia Abundant Life School and around Aotearoa New Zealand. The impact on student achievement is not to be underestimated and we are well aware of the work that needs to be done to ensure our students can meet the expectations of NCEA this year.
In previous years, all Y11-13 students would be granted study leave near the middle of Term 4 to prepare for external examinations. This is not the case this year for our kura. Some students will go on study leave, some will not.
Throughout this term, we have been identifying students who would benefit most from being here at school as opposed to being released for study leave. In discussions with the students and you as the whanau, these students will be involved in completing internal assessments, possibly block courses and specific tutoring sessions here at school. They will be focused on achieving what is termed internal credits. In short, they will not be going on study leave but will continue learning here at school throughout Term 4.
Our goal is to see all of our students achieve their full potential. Making such changes will enable this to happen whilst also continuing to provide a number of students with opportunities for endorsement which can only be gained through external examinations.
In the coming weeks, we will be identifying students who will be here at school throughout Term 4 and not going on study leave. We will contact all parents of these students and inform them of the plan moving forward.
On the reverse of this newsletter are some key dates for Term 4, and also extra tuition for some subjects.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Wilkinson or any of the classroom teachers.
Ngā mihi nui,
Mrs. Tina Takimoana
Acting Principal
