St. Francis Elementary Newsletter
Welcome back to 2021-22 school year
Word of welcome
I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself my name is Mark Warnholtz and I am your new school principal. I started working for the ETSB in 2010 and have spent the first part of my teaching career at Alexander Galt Regional High School in Sherbrooke. For the past 5 years I have worked at Galt as a vice-principal in the modified and adapted programs as well as cycle 1. During this time I completed a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at Bishops' University. I am also a proud dad of four who will be starting school tomorrow in Lennoxville. I can't begin to tell you how excited and honoured I am to take on the role of school principal at St. Francis :).
With this being said, it has not taken me long to see what an incredible school community we have here. The school team have been exceptional at welcoming me and bringing me up to the speed on the important work being done to help move our school forward. I look forward to continuing to help our school grow by contributing my ideas and experience.
The 2021-22 school year is upon us and with it we will once again need to work together in order to ensure our students receive the highest quality education while navigating the covid-19 pandemic. Our teachers have been hard at work over the past few days getting everything ready to welcome our students this week.
I wish you all a happy and healthy school start up and I look forward to meeting many of you soon :)

Wearing of Masks
K4 and K5: No masks at all
Youth Sector - Elementary & Secondary (Gr.1 to Sec. 5) Procedure mask required in
class
common areas
when circulating indoors
on school transportation (buses)
No mask required outdoors, or during Physical Education and Health classes.
Procedure masks will be supplied by the school board.
Staff must wear a mask if the 2-meter distance cannot be respected.
Hand Hygiene
Once again this year, there will be hand disinfecting stations for students to wash their hands when entering and exiting the school.
Water Bottles
Please send a full water bottle with your child daily at school. Students will have access to touch free refilling stations throughout the day.
Full-time Attendance
All students (K4 to secondary 5) will be coming to school on a full-time basis.
Transportation
All students except for preschool students will need to wear a procedure mask while on the school bus. There will be no physical distancing on the bus, but seats will be assigned to students. This measure will help people in charge of conducting investigations to trace contacts in the event there is a COVID case on the school bus.
Once again this year, students will be encouraged to wash their hands at home and at school before boarding the bus.
Extracurricular activities
No bubble-class: all extracurricular activities can resume. In elementary schools: sports and extracurricular activities will take place as normal.
Virtual Services
Students who have medical exemptions from attending school due to serious complications related to Covid-19 may receive educational services at a distance. If this applies to your situation, a recent medical note, dated and signed by a doctor, indicating that distance services are recommended for your child(ren) due to the risk of serious complications related to Covid-19, must be provided to the school. Please note that because new criteria for exemptions are in place, medical notes provided during the 2020-2021 school year cannot be accepted.
COVID-19 Reminders
If your child has symptoms related to COVID-19 or lives with a family member who has tested positive, you must keep them at home. We invite you to call 1-877-644-4545 for instructions and recommendations, and you can also use the COVID-19 self-assessment tool at:https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/covid-19-symptom-self-assessment-tool/.
If your child receives a positiveCOVID-19 result, kindly inform your child's school so that the contact tracing procedures may get started.
If your child receives a positive test result on a weekend, please contact the school board directly at 1-833-381-1196 and email the school warnholtzm@etsb.qc.ca

Important Information for pick up and drop off of students
End of the day bus dismissal:
At 3:20, the bell rings. All students are brought down to their designated door to be dismissed. All students (except daycare students) will leave the building at 3:20.
Walkers will leave the school and immediately start walking home.
Daycare students will head straight to the daycare room.
Bus students will walk to their buses
*Students being picked up are to stay against the brick gym wall outside the brown doors (near the outdoor equipment room). They will need to wait there until ALL buses have left the parking lot, then their parents will come into the "Loop" to pick their children up. Mr, Hinds and Mr. Corey will be monitoring this.
Very Important:
1) No student may leave the school until Mr. Corey or Mr. Hinds tells them it is OK. Sometimes buses arrive late and students may not be outside when buses are in motion in the parking lot.
2) At the end of the day, students are to go directly onto their buses. This is not a time for socialization.
Morning Drop Off:
This will include for Kindergarten parents however these parents are invited to the Outdoor classroom area (please see invitation from PPO)
