Justin Derrick

Principal

Video Introduction

It is an absolute honor to be the principal of Cesar E. Chavez High School. My name is Justin Derrick and this is my first year with the D.J.U.H.S.D. family. I attended West Chester University of Pennsylvania and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Health Sciences. Once I graduated in 2006, I made the cross country move to Bakersfield and have since made it my home. I received my Masters in Educational Management from the University of La Verne in 2013.

I started my career at Kern High School District as a Physical Education teacher at Arvin High School. After a few years, I made a move to Wasco High School where I taught Physical Education, Health, and Leadership. My administrative career began after 5 1/2 years at Wasco after leaving to Wasco Elementary School District and serving as a Learning Director at Palm Avenue Elementary. My career then lead me to the Assistant Principal of Athletics, Activities and Academics at McFarland High School Early College for 4 years and then became the Principal for two years before coming to Cesar E. Chavez High School.

I look forward to learning all the traditions here at Cesar E. Chavez High School and promise to push our school site to be the best in Kern County. My expectations will always meet the ambitions of the students, parents, staff, and community. The definition of a Titan is a person of very great strength, intellect, or importance. We will exemplify this in everything we do.

Juan Jose Madrigal

Learning Director

Hello Titan Family,

My name is Juan José Madrigal and it is my pleasure to serve our staff and students as the Learning Director here at Cesar E. Chavez High School. I attended college at CSU Long Beach and earned my B.A. in Sociology and Chicano/Latino Studies, as well as my teaching credential in Social Sciences. Later, I earned my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Bilingual Education through the University of Texas at El Paso. Recently I earned my M.A. in Educational Administration along with my Administrative Credential from CSU Bakersfield.

Prior to coming to Cesar E. Chavez High School, I taught 7th grade at Cecil Avenue Middle School for 6 years, before teaching 2 years at Delano High School. Here at CCHS, I emphasize working together with teachers, counselors, students, and parents to foster an environment in our classrooms where students feel safe, respected, and challenged in a healthy and supportive manner. We have a great culture here at CCHS and I look forward to continuing to serve and support our staff and students to help them be the best version of themselves on a daily basis.

Shirden Prince

Greetings Titan Family!

In my current role, I and my incredible staff monitor discipline, attendance, safety and the Independent Study Program at CCHS. My main priority is to ensure that all students feel safe and secure on our campus so that they can focus on their education with out unnecessary distractions. If you ever have a question or concern please do not hesitate to contact me so that it can be addressed. Thank you for your support of our school and for entrusting us with the care and well-being of your children.

Jim McConnell

Assistant Principal of Student Services

Now that I am in my fifth year as an administrator at CCHS , I can’t tell you how glad I am to have our student body back on campus! When our period bells go off and I watch students walk out of their classrooms onto campus, this makes me extremely happy!!! Last school year I would only see crows and seagulls in the quad all day long. Our fall sports have started well, and since it is nearly October, our winter sports are starting their workouts to prepare our students for Basketball, Soccer & Wrestling. If you have any extracurricular questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at 661-720-4610.
