Space/ Universe Studies - Life Cycle of a Star
In this newsletter the focus will be on Montessori-inspired studies of space/the universe. There is a link for downloading the life cycle of a star image.
Life Cycle of a Star. Stars are formed in clouds of gas and dust, known as nebulae. Nuclear reactions at the centre (or core) of stars provides enough energy to make them shine brightly for many years. The exact lifetime of a star depends very much on its size.

Crayon Resist with Watercolor Paint
Using crayons, children color their picture first. It is important to push hard when coloring to coat the paper with the crayon's wax. After this brush the paper with water. Next add paint pigment by using water and paint to brush over the entire picture. The paper will resist paint where the crayon is.
Painting a Sun
Using white construction paper, cut out a circle to represent the sun. Glue the circle onto a background (darker paper). Use red and yellow paint to cover the circle and extend the paint onto the background.
Black construction paper is used for the background. Children cut out a small red circle for the center of the sun and glue it down. Orange, yellow, green, blue and purple paper are torn into rectangle shapes. These shapes are glued down around the center of the sun radiating out. When finished, different colored rings will surround the center of the sun.
