LAMP Language Acquisition through Motor Planning
LAMP is an augmentative alternative communication (AAC) approach designed to give a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves through a speech generating device.
This course will cover the components of LAMP: readiness to learn, engaging the learner through joint engagement, and learning language through a unique and consistent motor plan paired with an auditory signal and a natural consequence.
Discussion will include how this approach addresses the core language deficits of autism, device features that are beneficial to teaching language, and how to use those features to implement LAMP components. Videos will be used to illustrate the treatment components.

START Coaching Model Training
Due to the increase in the numbers of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Michigan schools, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to adequately address their needs using a traditional Teacher Consultant (TC) caseload model.
TCs report spending a lot of their time addressing crisis situations which leaves little time for the collaboration and problem-solving necessary to improve practices in classrooms.
As such, the START Coaching Model is one solution for addressing the issues and is intended to result in the following outcomes:
- Building district capacity to educate students with ASD in general education environments.
- Improve implementation fidelity of universal supports and Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs).
- Improve the development and implementation of Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs).
- Lenawee County educators can still register for the remaining 6 sessions @ the Porter Center!
- October 19, 2017 - April 24, 2018
