A MESSAGE FROM DR. HARRISON
Hello Legacy Families!
For the month of September, Legacy is coming together as one community with one cause.... supporting Create A Smile Club with a fundraising goal of $10,000 to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. We are combining our magnet focus of TIDE with the goal of giving back by creating socially responsible entrepreneurs who can and will have an immediate impact on their community. This is a student-led effort, and all students have the opportunity to get involved and help us give back to our community. See below for more details. We hope you'll consider joining us in our efforts.
Enjoy your weekend. See you all next week!

Take care and stay safe,
Dr. Harrison, Principal

LEGACY IN THE NEWS
Legacy Recognized as a 2022 Distinguished Program: Mathematics
Students taking high school Geometry at Legacy Magnet Academy explore and apply geometric concepts witnessed in their daily lives through project-based learning. One project required students to use properties of triangles to design a truss bridge and compete against other teams for the most efficient bridge design; the lightest bridge withstanding the most weight. Students wrote architectural design proposals for redesigning (a.k.a. pranking) the volume or surface area of a teacher’s classroom. One winning team filled a teacher’s room with balloons. She’s a former UCLA women’s basketball player. The balloons were USC colored. Another winning team covered a teacher’s wall with a billboard version of Hollywood hunk, Henry Cavill. And sometimes we just do silly geometric fashion projects like make cone hats.

Volunteers Needed!
LMA is looking for you to join our team of volunteers! This year, we have many new projects in the hopper and expect more general volunteer opportunities to become available. Additionally, we are looking for people to serve on three committees: Gala (we will be kicking off our first), Hospitality (organize and host teacher/staff appreciation-type events), and Recycling. If you are interested in serving on any of these committees, or if you would like to be added to our volunteer team, you can email volunteers@legacypto.org, or fill out this FORM.
Finally, if you have friends in the LMA community, please encourage them to join our team with you! Volunteering is a great way to support our kids and meet other LMA families.
Thank you for being part of our volunteer team!
Sincerely,
Sonja Melching
