Counseling Office Important Dates


October 1- CSU Application opens

October 1- Community College application opens

October 1- FAFSA/Dream Act Applications open (GPA's submitted by VPHS for Cal Grant)

October 8, 9, 12, 13, 14- Staff Development Minimum Day: 12:26 pm dismissal

October 14- End of 1st of quarter (periods 1, 3, 5)

October 15- 2nd quarter begins (periods 2, 4, 6)

October 15- Phase II begins for student return

October 17- PSAT

October 19- Dual Enrollment 8-week courses through SCC begin

October 28- Cash for College online Q&A

Wednesday, October 14th: End of first term courses

Periods 1, 3, and 5 end October 14th with semester grades being issued for those three courses. Periods 2, 4, and 6 will begin on October 15th. 0 period courses continue through second term and end December 18th with semester grades being issued.

Phase 2- Return to School Update

Teachers will provide live (synchronous) virtual instruction to students on a minimum day schedule on October 8, 9, 12, and 13. During these afternoons, teachers will receive professional development and prepare for students to return to class while students work on asynchronous assignments. October 14 is a minimum day for high school teachers for grading purposes. This timeline allows high school students to finish their final projects and exams online before changing to Phase 2 in-person learning with the next three course SLICE.


Phase 2 will commence with the start of the 2nd quarter. Students will begin their 2, 4, and 6 period course. Any student in a 0 period course will continue with the course until all courses end on December 18th.


Students will be divided into two cohorts:

Cohort A: Alpha A-Lopez

Cohort B: Alpha Loprieato-Z


Please see the schedule below for the slow roll in return to in person instruction, based on the assigned cohort:

  • Thursday, October 15: Grade 9 Cohort B, Grade 12 Cohort B
  • Friday, October 16: Grade 10 Cohort B, Grade 11 Cohort B,
  • Monday, October 19: Grade 12 Cohort A, Grade 9 Cohort A
  • Tuesday, October 20: Grade 11 Cohort A Grade 10 Cohort A

After the first 4 days as listed, students will be attending school as follows:

Cohort A: Mondays and Tuesdays (virtual Wed-Friday)

Cohort B: Thursdays and Fridays (virtual Mon-Wed)

WEDNESDAY: all students will be virtual

AP Testing Info

Advanced Placement Students can purchase exams now though November 13th either in person at Principal's Office or web store. Please make sure you join your AP class through College board. Please see posted join codes!

Paper Education Online Tutoring Service

We are excited to announce that OUSD will be offering all students free, 24 hour tutoring services available through "Paper Education". Students and teachers have access to this service through their OUSD dashboard.
