Beth Sykes and Remington (Remi)
Hello! My name is Beth Sykes and I am the teacher in Wenatchee Valley Community Transitions! This is my 26th year teaching in special education and 17th year working with students who are 18-21. I am also a Course Developer and Adjunct Professor at Eastern Washington University and help build and provide professional development for educators in Washington state through WEA’s Special Education Support Center and OSPI’s Inclusionary Practices Project! I love this work! I enjoy helping my students and families get connected with community services and love working with our community to build partnerships for student employment!
This is Remington. He is our program therapy dog! He helps students find their smiles, walks with them and generally keeps an eye on everything. He loves belly rubs and scratches behind the ears!

Meet the Maker
Hi, my name is Seth Fuller, and I am in my first year of the Transition Program. I’m interested in Cinematography and Animation. I had the privilege to make the introduction video for the Transition Program last year, while in High School, at the Tech Center. I came up with the questions, so that we can show what jobs students can do when they grow up, how DVR and DDA work, and going to Rotary Park, the Humane Society, and even Stemilt.
I hope you enjoyed the video I made for the Transition Program.

Week 1 -Community experience @ Chelan County Fair
Self-advocates took to the fair on a sunny afternoon for our first Community Experience of the year. We were able to visit a variety of animals, observed some train model sets, had photo ops with a pirate and his parrot, and of course for some, the food at the fair is always a treat. Students learned to schedule a bus route, how to navigate in a complex environment, practicing self-advocacy, and community engagement skills(taking turns, respect for animals and community members, etc).
“The day was a whole lot of fun, and we looked forward to next year” -Seth Fuller

The Transition Program has partnered with Wenatchee Valley Senior Center in volunteer capacity. We have seen the need, and are on it. Our students work at the Senior Center serving patrons, preparing for lunch service and clean up. This opportunity allows our students to experience community engagement, learn about casual serving etiquette, hands on food preparation, and how to leave a space more organized than when we found it. Thank you for partnering with us, WVSAC!!!

Construction Program at the Tech Center
Will is in his first year with the Transition Program. He began the Construction program at the Tech Center as a high school Senior at Wenatchee High School, he is in his second year at the tech center. There are many things Will enjoys about the construction program; being outdoors, working in a project based curriculum and seeing a finished product that he has completed alongside peers. Will is working hard and is hopeful that next year he will be employed by a local company, doing what he loves.
