Miss Cleasby's 4K News

News for the week of November 18th

Turkey Theme

Our theme for the next week and a half is Turkeys and Thanksgiving. We will be making a triangle turkey art project and a "Where is Turkey" book. Next week Tuesday, November 26th is our Thanksgiving Feast. Sorry for my delay in sending out the volunteer reminders. I will send out reminders for what you signed up for tomorrow. Please let me know if you can't send in the item you signed up for.

Turkeys in Disguise

The optional family "homework" sent home a few weeks ago is due this week. If you wish, you can decorate a paper turkey with your child. The idea is to disguise your turkey to help make it past Thanksgiving this year. We will display your child's disguised turkeys on a bulletin board in our classroom!

Jolly Phonics

Our Jolly Phonics letter of the week is "U". The jolly phonics action for the letter /U/ is to keep one hand steady and raise the other, as if raising an umbrella, and say u, u, u, u. Below is the Jolly Phonics vowel video again which contains the letter "U" song.

Upcoming Events

*Please mark your calendars for a special parent/child craft night in February. The craft night will be held on Tuesday, February 11th at the Elementary School cafeteria from 6:00- 7:00pm. All three 4K classes will be combined for this fun event. We will be making a valentine craft and singing a few songs :) We thought it would be nice to have a get together in February when life is a little less hectic than around the holidays. More information to come about this fun event!

*The week of December 2nd we will begin a unit on "The Gingerbread Man". We will be reading many of the different versions and comparing them in class. We will also be participating in a "Gingerbread Exchange" where we will decorate 12 different paper gingerbread men and we will be sending them to different Pre-K classes around the United States. We will send them out on December 4th and then we will begin receiving different gingerbread men from other classes. This will be a fun activity that is also an introduction to geography, as we will be pointing out different states on the map that our gingerbread men arrived from.

Volunteers Wanted

* In January we will be starting our "Traveling Backpack" program for families that sign up. There will be more information to come on these neat bags filled with wonderful learning activities to do at home with your child. Planning ahead, we are looking for one person per class ( 1 for my a.m. class and 1 for my p.m. class) to volunteer every Tuesday for approximately an hour. This person would go through the traveling backpacks and check in the items to get them ready to send out with the next group of students. Please contact Miss Cleasby if you are interested.
