Why is cyber bullying an issue?

Cyber bullying is very serious issue in today's society. Many teenagers are affected by cyber bullying everyday. Teenagers are bullied at school, physically and verbally, but then you think your safe at home. But most teenagers aren't. The bullying continues at home, in their own bedrooms, through social networking. Sites and apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and Ask.fm are some of the most popular social networking sites. The bullying continues on their computers and phones. Videos, photos, and statuses can be shared to hundreds of teenagers in a particular area, with just the click of a button. Someones life could be changed forever through cyber bullying. Not only will it affect the victims life, it can affect their families and friends lives, especially if the teen takes their own life, simply because they just can't take it anymore.

1. Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen to them more than once.


2. Over 80% of teens use a cell phone regularly, making it the most common medium for cyber bullying.


3. 81% of young people think bullying online is easier to get away with than bullying in person.


4. Only 1 in to victims will tell a parent or a trusted adult about their abuse online.


5. Girls are about twice as likely as boys to be victims and perpetrators of cyber bullying.


6. About 75% have visited a website bashing another student.


7. Bullying victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide.

Advice

- Always talk to a trusted adult or members of your family, such as older siblings, parents, aunties and uncles, cousins, etc.


- Talk to a teacher at school or see the principle if the situation continues or becomes worse.


- School guidance counselor's are very helpful and understanding.


- Surround yourself with close-friends and trusted people.


- Be safe online and if the online situation becomes serious delete the account or block the cyber bullies. You will feel much better and see way you won't have to see or have nasty comments and people won't be able to share your photos.
