Greetings families -
The Michigan Department of Education has released a non-competitive grant program to support childcare providers and families with the cost of childcare during the COVID-19 State of Emergency. Please check with your childcare provider to be sure that they are aware of this exciting opportunity.

LEARN
Have fun with your children teaching them to make predictions and estimations while keeping them moving.
Ask your children how many steps they think it is to the front door. Have your children write down the number of steps they think it will take to reach the front door. Next, show them how to count their steps. Then, have your children walk to the front door - counting each step. Now, write the actual number of steps taken next to their guess. Talk to your child about their prediction; why did they guess that number? Did they take more steps or less? Would their guess and actual number of steps be different if they were taking really big steps? How about if they were taking little tiny steps? Have them guess and try it taking big and then little steps.
Continue making predictions:
-the number of steps it will take to go around the outside of the house
-how many hops will it take to go across the length of the house
-how long will it take them to run around the outside of the house
-how many baby steps to go around the kitchen
Doing this activity with your children is building early math skills. Practicing prediction and estimation will help children build confidence in number sense and spatial relations (how things move and fit in a space).
