NO SCHOOL September 24 Teacher Professional Development Day
From Mr. Martin
I hope you are watching our TAKE 5 video production. This is 100% student generated and is very good. You must watch from beginning to end. On Friday, 9-14-2018, there was a random “hugging” short bit at the end. Very appropriate and very good for TRMS.
Also, this came out last week. Very powerful. I immediately shared with my family. Does not matter what stage in life, this video is powerful.
Both of the above links can be found on our web page.
Not sure if you are keeping up with us on Facebook and Twitter. On Thursday we had a couple of post related to student self-efficacy*.
*Hattie's definition of self-efficacy is, "The confidence or strength of belief that we have in ourselves that we can make our learning happen."
Self-efficacy has an effect size of .63

FROM OUR COUNSELORS AND SOCIAL WORKER:
According to Canadian Researchers in the Journal of Personality, “It’s healthy to want to get good grades and to work hard to achieve them. Just like it’s healthy to want to win the big game and to put in extra hours of practice to be at your best. But it’s never a good thing, new research confirms, to let yourself or anyone else insist on perfection. Any kind of perfectionism — whether it’s self-inflicted, socially proscribed, or demanded by parents — results in an increased risk of suicide.” Another risk identified is that people with perfectionist tendencies are less likely to admit they have a problem. Working towards goals is what makes life meaningful, but working towards perfection can be detrimental to mental health. It’s all about progress, not perfection.

What: Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program is introduced at 7th gr. and utilized in 7th and 8th gr.
Who: Utilized in 7th and 8th gr.
Parents are notified if their child has “Yellow Carded” themself or has been “Yellow Carded” by another student.*The person reporting is kept anonymous by the counselor, unless they are reporting themself.
Why: Many times students share their plans to harm themselves with friends.. This is a way to take that concern to the adults who can assist the student in getting help they need to deal with their emotional needs.
*The person reporting is kept anonymous.
Where: The Yellow Card is stapled into the inside cover of the agenda. The student can show any adult at TRMS the card. No explanation is needed, they are sent directly to a counselor.

Missing immunizations are due by October 23! We are still missing 23 students’ immunizations!
The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and up get a flu vaccine. This will go a long way to keeping our student population and our community healthy this year.
Hearing and vision will be taking place October 9 and 11.

FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL...
Student Behavior Expectations at GEHS Events: Gardner Edgerton High School is excited to invite PRMS, TRMS, and WMS students to all of the outstanding athletic competitions that the high school has to offer. However, it is expected that middle school students abide by the following expectations while attending events at the high school:
1. Students are expected to sit on the bleachers that have been designated for the middle school students. This year, during the football season, seating will be on the north west corner of the football field in the lower rows of bleachers. Failure to sit in the designated areas will result in students having to be seated with their parents or, if no parent is present, being removed from the game.
2. No students will be allowed to play on the grass or sidewalk around the stadium. If found in these areas, students will be asked to sit with their parents or, if no parent is present, you will be removed from the game.
3. School-appropriate behavior is expected from student attendees. Any student caught using foul language and/or participating in actions deemed inappropriate by any Gardner Edgerton district staff member will be removed from the game.
The Gardner Edgerton High School staff thanks all students in advance for their cooperation and compliance with their expectations presented in this letter. We look forward to having you at the games to cheer on the Blazers!
