REPEAT INFORMATION
MUST KNOW: Switching from Outlook to Gmail - July 2019
As we find more staff using G Suite (Google applications), the district has started to plan for the migration of email service from Outlook to Gmail, effective July 1, 2019. G Suite applications enhance collaboration and provide better connectivity across mobile devices. This change in email providers also has the potential to produce savings.
Technology Services will begin to migrate all staff emails, account folders, and calendars from Microsoft Outlook to Gmail. This migration will be completed on or before July 1. You will not experience any disruption to your Outlook email service during this time. Everything will be migrated, except items in Clutter. This transition provides staff an opportunity to do some spring cleaning by deleting emails and folders no longer wanted or needed. The district provides email service for professional business use. Staff should forward any personal emails and folders to be saved to a personal email address.
The district will take time to carefully plan and provide professional development and building tech support to assist staff with this transition. Training will be offered during the summer in person and online via video tutorials and written instructions. The district welcomes staff input as it begins this process. Please complete this brief survey by April 5 to help us understand your current familiarity with Gmail and other G Suite applications, including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, Calendar, Hangouts, Photos, and Keep. Your feedback will enable us to effectively plan to provide training to meet the varied needs of staff.
Please Note: The district will continue to provide Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, etc. This change will only affect Outlook email.
MUST KNOW: (repeat from Feb. bulletin): Elemenary Will Have IPADS ONLY Next Year
After reviewing staff feedback, weighing the pros and cons of both iPads and MacBooks and considering budgetary constraints, IPADS were selected as the elementary student device. Elementary buildings will be supported with student iPads at a ratio of 4 iPads to every 5 students.
Media Center search stations and check-out station devices will be in addition to the building ratio for student iPads. Music will also have devices outside of this ratio.
No device will be removed from elementary buildings until after end of school. At that time all student MacBooks, Mac Minis and iPads (except iPad 5's refreshed last school year) will be removed from buildings. Technology Services anticipates the new iPads to be in buildings to start the 2019-2020 school year.
