Middle School Moments
February 4, 2020
From the Desk of Mrs. McCoy
PINK - It is a season of the year that we see a lot of pink around by celebrating Cancer Survivors and Valentine’s Day. I wanted to share a picture with you of some pink papers that mean something very different to me.
Pink this year = prayer for me. This box represents 248 students that I am praying over. They shared with me, only me, their struggles and how I could pray for them. I am JUST ONE person who prays for your children. I am JUST ONE person who pours into them. Some others are teachers, staff, administrators, chaplains, coaches, club sponsors, etc. This is part of why you chose Christian education. This is why the sacrifice is worth it!
We all have been reminded recently that life is a vapor by losing a sports icon and one of our own dads. It has been such a privilege to talk to and meet with students answering their questions as best I can from scripture. It is an honor to join you in having timely, spiritual conversations about salvation and eternity with them. In these times, the 3-legged stool I talk about becomes critical. The church, the school and you, as parents working together make the foundation strong.
I am praying for you too and those conversations this week.
CHAP'S CORNER ~ From the Desk of Roger Woods
We must be intentional in our walk with the Lord....intentional in spending time with Him. Intentional in spending time with those we love. Ephesians 5:16 tells us to redeem the time.
I challenge us to spend more time praying...more time studying God’s Word. More time in His presence through worship.
In closing, I’d like to share a poem written in honor of Kobe Bryant by a close friend who also knew Kobe.
KOBE BRYANT
KOBE BRYANT WAS A TRUE GIFT TO OUR WORLD,
HE TOUCHED THE HEARTS AND SOULS OF MEN, WOMEN, BOYS, AND GIRLS.
KOBE BRYANT WAS GREATNESS AT IT’S BEST
AS A FIVE-TIME NBA CHAMPION HE LEFT A TRUE LEGACY OF SUCCESS.
KOBE BRYANT WAS A LOVING HUSBAND AND DAD,
LOSING HIS LIFE WITH HIS DAUGHTER “GIANNA” IS TRULY SAD.
KOBE BRYANT PLAYED THE GAME OF BASKETBALL WITH PASSION EVERY PLAY,
HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED ESPECIALLY BY THE LAKER FANS IN L.A....
KOBE BRYANT INSPIRED US ALL TO BE THE BEST THAT WE COULD BE,
TEACHING US THE TRUE MEANING OF THE WORD “VICTORY”.
KOBE BRYANT WE THANK GOD FOR SENDING YOU OUR WAY,
FOR YOUR FAMILY WE WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY.
KOBE BRYANT MAY YOU AND GIANNA NOW REST IN TOTAL PEACE,
OUR LOVING MEMORIES OF YOU BOTH WILL NEVER CEASE!

Student Assistance Program and Permission Slip
Silverdale Baptist Academy is now offering a Student Assistance Program (SAP) to all students. This is a voluntary program that provides various support services designed to meet your child’s social, emotional, and behavioral needs. It is a free service. There is no cost to you or your child.
Students can be referred to the counselors by parents/guardians, school personnel, or refer themselves (MS/HS only). The counselor team is comprised of Certified Student Assistance Professionals and licensed counselors. Our goal is to work with you in order to offer support and recommendations for your son or daughter. Additionally, our team can provide information so families may access community resources.
You are a vital part of your child’s success and we recognize the importance of parent/guardian involvement in this process. With your permission, your child can self-refer(MS/HS only) to the counseling team if they feel like they need to talk with someone about problems or issues they may be facing. If your child were to give us information that indicates he/she is at risk to harm themselves or others, then we would notify you immediately. By completing this form, you are giving us permission to speak with your child should the need arise.
Silverdale Baptist Academy is excited to offer such an invaluable service to you and your child. Thank you again for partnering with us.

Does your student have a new medication he/she needs to take at school?
If so, please complete the Medication Authorization form found on the Parent Portal under Nurse's Corner and submit to the school nurse. A separate form is required for each medication. Each medication must be in the original pill bottle labeled by the pharmacist.
Can my student carry medication on him/her throughout the day?
Students are not allowed to keep any medications with them, in their backpack or locker, unless they have submitted a written consent from a parent/guardian and physician to the school nurse and she approves. A parent needs to transport the medication to the school nurse or designated personnel. Students should not carry in medications to hand to the school nurse or designated personnel.
Does your child have a new medical diagnosis or a current medical diagnosis that has changed?
If so, please email the school nurse (awidener@silverdaleba.org), complete a Care Plan listed on the Parent Portal under Nurse's Corner, and submit to the school nurse. Students with medical conditions, including but not limited to anaphylaxis, asthma, cardiac conditions, diabetes, epilepsy, and other medical conditions, must have a completed Care Plan on file with the school nurse. Parents/guardians should update the school nurse as needed with any changes in medical conditions.
When can my child return to school after an illness?
Your child must be fever-free (without a fever-reducing agent) for 24 hours, as well as symptom-free (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, etc.), before returning to school, or when the family physician notifies the school in writing that it is safe to do so.
How do I contact the school nurse?
