Deborah Surgi
Deborah Surgi, athletic director at Hockaday. Previously, Deb was the Director of Athletics at The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, a PK-12 all-girls' independent school, where she had 35 years of experience as a teacher and coach. Students, parents, and coaches will benefit from her extensive experience leading athletic teams and serving on administrative teams at independent schools.
Surgi began her career as a varsity volleyball coach and health teacher at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, an all-girls PK-12 independent school. As a member of her 1991 State Champion team and the New Orleans Prep Hall of Fame, Deb was inducted into both groups in 2015.
Additional accolades include five consecutive years as Louisiana's top high school coach, three Times Picayune All-Metro Coach of the Year awards, three LHSCA Coaching Excellence Awards, and three LVA Coaching Excellence Awards.
All-East All-Sports Coach of the Year and Sportswriters Coach of the Year She guided the Cardinals to three state championships, one semi-final appearance, and five consecutive district championships. As a high school coach, she had a 204-49 record and a 0.606 winning percentage. In 2006, she was recognized as one of New Orleans' most influential sports figures. A volleyball team and recruitment program for women at Loyola University were started by Deb from 1994 to 1996. There were two tournament championships in a two-year run of 28-27.
