Reminder of the New Semester
Midterms Stress Management Activities
Thanks to Ms. Vogel, Ms. Kunhardt and Mrs. Jerome, we had popcorn, movies, playdough, therapy dogs, card games, snacks, quiet areas to study, yoga, and more to help with the stress that comes during exam time!
In need of Volunteers for Crooker Theater
To prepare for the Crooker Theater stage for renovation, about 40 volunteers helped move large set pieces. We need your help to return the large sets to the stage (carefully!) as we prepare for our production of Phantom of the Opera!
We are looking for 30–40 volunteers to help move the three large set pieces back on stage starting promptly at 9am this Saturday, January 20. This cannot happen successfully unless we have enough folks to carefully lift and carry these to their spots. The moving of these pieces should be no more than 30 minutes with the right number of hands, but you are welcome to stay longer to help move other items. Please email Michael Millett (mmillett@brunswicksd.org) if you are available and willing to help (or show up the day of if you are unable to commit right now).
Brunswick City Limits Auditions!
We’re back, and better than ever! Auditions for soloists will be Thurs., Feb. 1st and Fri., Feb. 2nd in room 101 after school. If you cannot make those dates, please see Mr. Porter AHEAD OF TIME to make other arrangements. If you want to be in the on-stage chorus, please see Mr. Porter for details. Show dates are April 5th and 6th, 2024 7:00 pm.
This is a fundraiser for the BASAF, the Brunswick Area Student Fund.

Exploring Career Pathways
GOALs Class
The GOALS class at the end of the semester Job Shadow Day was one of the best ever! Students were matched with a career of their choosing with professionals from around the region. Two students worked with a blacksmith in North Yarmouth for the morning, while another student went to the Bowdoin campus to tour a chemistry lab and meet with a professor there. Several students cooked in the kitchen at Joshua’s, as a student played and looked after toddlers at Family Focus across town. A student learned about what it takes to be a technology network specialist from a BSD district specialist while another student helped hem dresses in Fort Andross for the Maine State Music Theater. At the same time several students were at the Midcoast Humane Soviet taking care of the animals there. And finally, a student interested in weather met with a meteorologist from Channel 8 and even got to help forecast the weather for their midday report live on TV! A rewarding experience was had by all!
Mr. Arcand and Mr. Woolworth's GOAL's Class
Here is another BHS student doing great things.
Lily Bosinske was on the 12:00 news being the weather person.
This was Lily's job shadow which was part of Mr. Woolworth and Mr. Arcand's GOALs class.
Ms. White's 9th Grade Honors World Studies I Class
Ms. White's 9th Grade Honors World Studies I students did some research into various art forms from Ancient China. Either on their own or with a partner, they chose one of the art forms to learn more about and then recreate an imitation of the art form. Here's the art they created!
Mr. Lynch’s AP U.S. Government Class
Chief Deputy Attorney General Chris Taub came in to speak to Mr. Lynch’s AP U.S. Government class on his job and compelling constitutional cases stemming from Maine all the way up to the Supreme Court! Mr. Taub argued before the Supreme Court in Carson v. Makin in 2021.
Mr. Driscoll's Woodworking Class
Steveon Johnson is a student in Mr. Driscoll's Woodworking class. Steveon is pictured using the tablesaw to cut pieces for students in Physics of music class.

FAFSA UPDATE
Federal Student Aid announced they are having a “soft launch period” for the 2024-25 FAFSA which will result in some pauses on the site. There is some information about this found at: https://fsapartners.ed.gov/knowledge-center/library/electronic-announcements/2023-12-15/2024-25-fafsa-soft-launch-details-and-timelines-updated-jan-4-2024. The big takeaway is that families should still be preparing their information for the FAFSA, but it may be a few weeks before you find success in filing your request for aid. You can begin the process now, however, by creating a FAFSA account. Whether you’re a student, parent, or borrower, you’ll need to create your own account to apply for, receive, and manage your federal student aid. Follow the link below to create a FSA ID:
FAME
You may also want to visit the FAME website https://www.famemaine.com/affording-education/pay-for-school/get-financial-aid/fafsa/ where you can find more information about the FAFSA as well as scholarship opportunities for Maine students.
SCHOLARSHIPS
There are many scholarships listed on our website.

TRAVEL and FAMILY PLANS?

If your student will be missing school for some kind of family event, please make sure they are filling out the Planned Absence Form and connecting with their teachers ahead of time. This form and other helpful documents for students can be found on the BHS Website: https://www.brunswicksd.org/o/bhs/page/bhs-common-documents
