Principal's Message
Dear Dolvin Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I share news of the passing of our beloved former Art teacher, Hope Knight. Hope shared her passion for Art with Dolvin students for over 25 years. She was an artist, an author, an animal advocate, a Peanuts fan, a teacher, a wife, a mother, and so much more.
To me, Hope epitomizes all the good that a teacher can do and be. She made connections with kids – whole families, actually. She taught children to see the beauty in both the ordinary and the extraordinary. Hope fostered a love of art in kids that they took with them to middle school, high school, and beyond. She celebrated the “smartest artists” in each of them. Hope taught kids about empathy and kindness through her work raising funds for homeless animals. She was a kind and dedicated person who approached her career as a calling. Hope will be deeply missed.
If you would like to share any memories of Hope Knight and her impact on your child(ren) or to send condolences, please use THIS LINK. If you would like to add any photographs of your child’s art done with Mrs. Knight, please send them to my email: cookek1@fultonschools.org I will then compile and share all responses with Hope’s family.
Swatting:
At Dolvin, our focus is to provide your child with a quality education in a safe and orderly environment. I believe that it is important for us to keep the lines of communication open with parents and to make you aware if a situation arises at our school and how we will respond when one does.
Yesterday, at multiple schools across the state, including Fulton County, “swatting” incidents occurred that resulted in several schools being locked down with police responding to the school building. “Swatting” is defined as a false report of an ongoing emergency or threat of violence intended to prompt an immediate law enforcement response.
While this did not happen at our school, I want to communicate proactively in the event we do have to respond to a real or false threat to our safety. If our school does receive a threat of this type, our response can include:
- Placing the school in a soft or hard lockdown depending on the details involved.
- Immediate coordination with Fulton County Schools Police and the appropriate local police force to respond to and then investigate the threat.
- Communication to the community about the situation with as much information as possible in as timely a manner as possible. Please know that we will communicate to our community as quickly as we can, but our priority will be the immediate safety of our students and staff.
- Follow up communication as appropriate with any additional information and resources to support our community.
- If we need to dismiss students or allow students to be dismissed, we will communicate the process details when it is safe to do so.
While these real or hoax threats may be scary, it is important that parents only physically report to the school AFTER receiving communication that it is safe to do so. Arriving before that will only complicate matters for the police and school staff as they respond to the situation.
I know these situations are unsettling for our students, staff, and parents. Please remind your child that if you see something or hear something, say something. If you’re asking yourself if you should report something, the answer is yes.
You can always use our FCS Tip Line to share information - www.fultonschools.org/fcstipline.
Thank you for your involvement in your child’s education and your partnership with Dolvin.

Did you Know?
There is a board policy for visitors to Fulton County Schools: http://go.boarddocs.com/ga/fcss/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=AMHFRT406BF5
Whenever a visitor comes to Dolvin for the first time, we will require the presentation of a driver’s license or government issued ID, which will be scanned by the Driver’s License Scanner. All visitors must wear a Visitor ID Badge at all times while at Dolvin.
If you are coming to volunteer at Dolvin, you must complete the Volunteer Registration Application. Fulton County has “volunteer periods” that reset every two years. The previous volunteer window closed on May 30, 2022, and we are currently in a new volunteer window, May 31, 2022 - May 30, 2024. This means that if you completed the process less than 2 years ago but before May 30, 2022, you will need to complete the process in the new window should you want to come volunteer again.
