Balclutha Primary School - T2 Wk 5

Newsletter 4 June 2021

Kia Ora e te Whānau,

Welcome to Week 5 of the term. It's hard to believe we are half way through term two already. Where is the year going?

Things have been a little quieter around school this week with our Year 6 and 7 students away on their Mt Cook camp for the week. They have been having some amazing adventures. If you haven't had a chance yet, check out some of the photos and videos they have put on our facebook page. We are all looking forward to having them back this afternoon.

Our school has 4 key values that we work to reinforce everyday. These are respect, responsibility, empathy and integrity. This term we have a spotlight on empathy. I have really enjoyed seeing this in action in the classrooms and the playground this term. Many of our students show empathy towards others around them though their kindness and compassion for each other. Everyday I see our students looking out for younger students, and making sure those around them are okay. This is just one of the many things that make our school a great place to be.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Ngā mihi nui,

Vicki Neave

Welcome to CJ who started school this week in Room 1!

Whānau and School Update

Last weekend we made approximately 23,000 cheese rolls! What a massive weekend it was!

Thank you to the parents, grandparents, teachers, additional staff within our school, students and past parents who came and helped out over Saturday and Sunday. We hope everyone is enjoying their cheese rolls.

From this fundraiser we have raised approximately $7,000 which is going towards our new playground surface. What a great effort!

Have a great long weekend :-)

Keep safe

Room 2

This week in Room 2 we continued our "experience writing" by trying some fresh fruit and vegetables and describing how they looked, smelt, felt and tasted. Carrots were quite popular with everyone, while lemons produced some very strong reactions from some of the class!

Room 3

While Miss Roughan was away last week, Room 3 made some awesome art with different relievers! Check out their amazing bug and banner pictures.

Room 5

Check out Room 5's very colourful "Face Art" they did with Mrs Craig when she was teaching here earlier this week.

Room 6 have been working on some wonderful graffiti pastel art with Mrs Judson. We are really pleased with how bright and colourful our finished art is.

Room 12

This week Miss Robins, Miss Faulkner-Barclay, Mrs Moodie, Room 12, Room 6 year 6 pupils and several parents have been staying at Glentanner Park, Mount Cook! Check out their fabulous experiences on our facebook page, including a helicopter ride!!! We are very excited to hear about their adventures when they are back next week!

Room 11

Room 11 students have been completing art activities over the past week - houses in the style of Nic Dempster as well as pictorial representations of their pepehas. They have also started to use an online finance programme called Banqer. Students 'earn' wages, pay rent, save money and learn about interest, mortgages and overdrafts.
